IMPROVEMENT IN HAND-RESTS.
Specificaton forming part of Letters Patent No. 136,357, dated March 4, 1873.
T0 all whom it may concem:
Be it known that I, IRVIN BELFORD, of Caldwell, in the county of Noble and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useiul Improvements in Hand-Rests; and I do hercby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawing, which forms part of this specification.
My invention relates to hand-rests for the use of recorders, book-keepers, and others; and consists of a plate attached to mechanism by which it may be raised or lowered to the desired height, so that the writers hand, sting upon said plate, shall be level with the surface to be written upon.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my invention; and Fig. 2, a "iew in perspective of the same, showing its application.
A is aplate of wood, metal, or other suitable substance, to which are attached the journals B B, in which turns the right and left hand screw-rod C. Upon the screw-rod 0 runs the arms D D, perforated by a female serew t0 correspond With the threads of the rod O.
Attached to the ends of the arms D D are the legs E E, crossing and cormected at 6. It will be seen that When the sGfew-rod 0 is turned by the key G the arms D D will either be brought together or sent apart by the opposing screws, according as the rod C is turned, chus inclinin g the legs E E more or less to the horizontal, and consequently raising or lowering the plate A. v
I do not confine n1y invention exclusively to the article of hand-rests, as it may be applied to tables, desks, chairs, ,leafsupport to books, &c.
Having thns described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the plate A with the journals B B, the right and left hand screwrod 0, the arms D D, and the legs E E, substantially as and for the purpose set fortin.
