IMPROVEMENT IN SODA-FOUNTAINS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,940, dated February 18, 1873.

To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, WILLIAM H. RUSSEL, of Sedalia, county of Pettis and State of Missouri, have invented certain Improvements in Soda-Fountains. l

The following description, taken in connectionv with the accompanying plate of drawing hereinafter referred to, forms a full and. exact specification, wherein are set forth the nature and principles of the invention, by which the same may be distinguished from others of a similar class, together with such parts thereof as are claimed as new and are desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the 'United States.

. My invention rela-tes to that class of sodafountainsvin which a reservoir charged with a solution of supercarbonate of soda is made use of, and the effervescence is caused by the combination of the same with sirups suitably charged with acid.

In the accompanying plate of drawin g which p illustrates my invention and forms a part of the specification thereof, Figure l is a'lateral elevation, taken partially in section, of my improved soda-fountain.

The construction and operation of m y invention are as follows: The reservoir A, containing a solution of the supercarbonate of soda,

is provided with a cover, B, and pipe G, which screws into the vertical tube D, the lower 4end of which is rigidly attached to the bottom counter-stand or ice-receiver E. The lower portion of the tube D is of-less diameter than the upper part thereof, and is provided with a piston, F, operated by the rod H, which forces the soda-Water through the exit-pipe I. Instead of placing the apparatus upon the counter or stand,.it may be placed beneath or on the side of the same, and the exit-tube may be secured upon the top of the counter.

Having described my invention, I will state what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, in the following clause-that is to say- A soda apparatus, consisting of the sodareservoir, the counter-stand, the jointed pipe connecting the said reservoir and stand, the piston, and the exit-pipe, all combined and operating together as described.
