Description

H. L. GALBRAITH.
SADIRON SUPPORT.
APPLICATION HLED SEPT. 30, 1919.
Patented O0t.1 2,192 0.
UNITED STATES HARRIET L. GALBRAITH, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
sADIRo'N-sUrron'r.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 12, 1920.
Application filed September 30, 1919. Serial No. 327,396.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HARRIET L., GAL- BRAI'lI-I, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sadiron-Supports; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to supporting devices, and has for its object the provision of a simple and inexpensive support for an ordinary electric or gas iron, in an inverted position, when with its face upturned, the iron may be used as a heater for boiling water, cooking and similar purposes. The support may also be used as a rest for the iron when desirable.
In the accompanying drawings in which I have illustrated my invention,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved support, and
Fig. 2 is a side view of the same in elevation, showing an ordinary sadiron supported thereby, in aposition for use as a heater, and with a heating utensil resting thereon.
In the drawings, 1 designates the support itself, which consists of a horizontally disposed body portion 2, and supporting legs or members therefor, 3, l and 5.
The body portion 2 consists preferably of some suitable sheet material with a portion cutaway, as at 6. to permit the passage theret-hrough of the handle of a sadiron when inverted and the parts connecting the handle to the body of the iron, as shown in Fig. 2.
The supporting legs or members 3, l, 5 are preferably formed from a single piece of wire or other suitable material, by looping the said wire, as clearly shown in Fig. 1, at three points, the said loops forming the legs or supporting members proper.
Between the loops, the wire is bent to conform substantially to the shape of a sadiron, and the body portion 2, and forms a frame for receiving the said body portion 2, the edges of which are bent over and around said wire, intermediate the loops forming the legs. The ends of the wire terminate at the points as, 3/ on either side of the cut away portion of the body 2.
The loops, forming the legs or supporting members, may be twisted as shown in the drawings, to afford greater rigidity to the structure and in any event are of such length as to permit the handle of a sadiron, when inverted and placed upon the support, to rest upon the table or other supporting base and thereby sustain its own and any additional weight placed upon the iron.
It will be noted from the drawings, that the lower extremities of the loops forming the legs, are bent outwardly. This is for the purpose of making the legs adjustable for raising or lowering the body portion 2, with relation to the table top on which the device may rest, so as to permit the handle of the sadiron when inverted and placed upon the support, to always rest upon the supporting surface and sustain its own weight, thereby relieving the frame and supporting legs of substantially all strain, no matter how much weight may be placed upon the inverted iron.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A steadying device to enable an iron when used for heating or cooking purposes, to stand in inverted position, said device comprising a body provided with an opening to permit the insertion of the handle of the iron, and flexible supporting legs depending from said body, of a length substantially equal to the depth of the handle of the iron, to permit the said handle to rest on a supporting surface on which the device is placed, whereby the weight of the iron and any article placed thereon will be supported by the handle of the iron.
2. A device of the character described, consisting of a horizontally disposed trian gularly shaped frame, formed from a single piece of flexible material, having oppositely disposed free ends which are spaced apart, the said piece of flexible material being bent intermediate its said ends into vertically disposed loops forming supports for the frame, and a horizontally disposed main body secured to said frame and provided with a recess which registers with the space between the free ends of the frame to permit the passage therethrough of the handle of a sadiron.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
