IMPROVEMENT IN FENCES.
To all lwhom it may concern:
Be it kn`own that we, ALvEUs J. GLEM. MONS and JOHN WI Wnsrnnoons, both of Aberdeen, in the county of Monroe and State of Mississippi, haveinvented a new and useful Improvement in Fences; and wedo hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and
exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 is a plan view.
The object of this invention is'to improve the construction of portable wooden fences in respect of the means of fastening the posts to the earth. To this end the invention consists in arethe metal frames, each of which is made in two parts, as shown, whereof the larger parts are put on so as to inclose the two slats near the top and bottom of each post, and thel cross-bar c then passed across and secured in the hooks c. To each lower frame a link, l), made like the larger part of the frame C, is hooked, and through this a notched stake, E, driven into the ground till the notch draws the link tight, thus anchoring the fence.
The fence is first placed in a straight line. The end post of the iirst panel is then carried from this line to a certain flxed distance anldl/ ff. anchored, in the manner herein described, o a brick, stone, or wooden foundation. Thev second post, which forms the end of the contiguous panels, is nextcarried to the same distance to the other side ofthe line and anchored in the same way, and this process is continued until the whole fence is arranged iu zigzag order. This operation causes the fence-boards to act as levers, forcing apart the two slats which make up each post, and thus tightening the frames C. A Having thus described our invention, what we claim, is
The fence herein described, consisting of the verticalslats B, fence-boards A, frame C, link D, and stake E, all arranged as specified.
