Description

(No Model.) A. LOTT.
BRAGE WIRE FASTENING TOR WIRE FENCES.
Patented Sept. 22, 1885.
I INVENTQR:
BY MIX/ um ATTORNEYS.
WITNESSES f'fi UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARTHUR LOTT, OF RIDDLEVILLE, TEXAS.
BRACE-WIRE FASTENING FOR WIRE FENCES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 326,911, dated September 22, 1885,
Application filed April 8, 1885.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ARTHUR LOTT, a citizen of the United States, residing in Itiddleville,
in the county of Karnes and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in BraceWVire Fasteningsfor \Vire Fences; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
This invention has more especially for its object, primarily, to lessen, in the erection or building of the fence, the number ofposts, and, in particular, the bracing of the panels or wires comprised in said panels; and the invention consists of brace wire fastenings for wire fences, a number being applied to the wires of a panel, and consisting individually of a brace or wire hooked at its ends upon the upper and lower wires at one and the same side, while it is connected to the opposite side of the intermediate wires by means of T- shaped or tri-armed clasps or fastenings, which application of the braces to the fencewires may be or is reversed for each successive brace, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which the same letters of reference indicate the same or similar parts in the figures.
Figure 1 is a side view of a fence-panel em bodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a trans verse vertical section thereof. Fig. 3 is a detached view of a tri-armed or T-shaped clasp.
In the embodiment of my invention as above outlined, I dispose the posts A, say, about a hundred feet apart, the usual distances or intervals of placing them apart being between thirty and forty feet, and I connect and pass through the posts a number of wires, B; from which it will be seen that I greatly lessen the number of posts used in the erection or building of the fence. I am enabled to thus construct the fence by the application to the considerable length of wire of each panel, resulting from such disposition of the posts, of vertical bracesO, two or more, to pre- (No model.)
vent the sagging of the wires, and to impart thereto the requisite stability and firmness to compensate for the omitted posts. These braces consist individually of a wire or bar, 0, with its upper and lower ends hooked upon the upper and lower wires B at one and the same side of the latter, while it is bent or stepped opposite to, and so as to fit against, the opposite side of and receive the intermediate Wires B, to which latter wires it is fastened or connected by tri-armed or T shaped clasps or fastenings D. The latter are made of suitable metal to permit their arms to be bent around and embrace the braces and the fence-wires at their points of intersection, and thus firmly brace the wires as against sagging and to secure the required stability and firmness, thus compensating for the omitted posts, as above pointed out. The braces are applied most advantageouslyeach successive brace to opposite sides of the fence-wires.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a fence, the combination, with the panel-wires, of the braces and the tri-armed or T-shaped clasps embracing the wires and braces at their points of intersection, said clasps each being made in one piece, with its arms bent around a longitudinal or panel wire and a brace-wire, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a fence, the combination, with the panel wires, ofthe braces with their ends hooked upon one and the same side of the upper and lower panel-wires, and said braces being stepped to receive and applied to the opposite side of the intermediate panel-wires, and the tri-armed or T-shaped clasps with their arms embracing the panel-wires and the braces at their points of intersection, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
ARTHUR LOTT.
