Description
H. A. GRAY.
CARD HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED MAYZI. 19w.
Patented Jan. 6, 1920.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY A. GRAY, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF T0 GEORGE IR. WRIGHT, 0F MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
OARD-HOLDER.
Application filed May 21, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY A. GRAY, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Card- Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
This invention relates to card holders and more particularly to that class adapted to contain and eject the cards.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character 1n which the cards contained thereln may be ejected singly.
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a card holder of this character in which the cards contained therem can be ejected without manually touching the same.
A further object is the provision of a card holder which is simple and economical in construction and positive and efficient in its operation. I
With these and other objects 111 v ew which will be apparent as the description proceeds my invention resides in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter described and defined by the appended claim, it being understood that changes 1n the precise embodiment might be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention.
This invention in one practical form n which it may be embodied is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in wh1ch:-
Figure 1 is a perspectlve view of a card holder embodying the features of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section view through the container, and
Fig. 3 is a cross section View taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing 1 represents a fiat sided card receptacle having one of its ends open and provided with a cover 2. The opposite end of the receptacle is provided wlth a horizontal slot 3 of suflicient dimensions to permit a single card A to be ejected therethrough. The top side of the receptacle 1s provided with a pressed out portion a havi ag a longitudinal slot 5 formed therein. S11

ably mounted within the slot is a dog 6 having its forward end toothed and directed downwardly to engage the top of a series of cards contained within the receptacle. The dog 6 isiprovided with a shank portion 6 extending through the slot 5 to which is at tached an operating nib 6". As best shown in Fig. 2, it will be noted that the lower surface of the operating nib is slightly inclined to permit a rocking movement of the dog 6. I
Contained within the receptacle is a spring 7 having arms engaging one side of the receptacle and provided with a yoke 7 adapted to engage a plurality of cards and urge the same in the direction of the ejector dog 6.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that by exerting a downward pressure upon the operating nib 6 the toothed end of the dog 6 will be rocked downward to engage the top card contained in the receptacle and upon forward movement of the dog the same will be ejected through the slot 3, thus rendering it unnecessary to manually touch the card thereby preventing the same from becoming soiled by the hands. It will further be seen in permitting the dog 6 to rock within the slot 5 that after a card has been ejected and pressure released from the operating nib 6 the dog will be free to slide back to its normal position without scratching or otherwise marring the card.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing it will be appreciated that a card holder of simple and eflicient construction has been provided and which, while I have described the same for use in connection with business or personal cards, can readily be used for street car tickets or other purposes where cards might be used.
What is claimed is:
A card holder comprising a receptacle provided with a slot extending through one end of the receptacle adjacent one side thereof, said side of the receptacle being. provided with a longitudinally extending slot in its central portion, a dog slidably mounted in said slot and adapted for gripping engagement with cards in the receptacle and a spring in said receptacle bearing against the other side of the receptacle and having a portion engageable directly against the substantially central portion of a pack of cards in the receptacle at a point approxiof the pack by reason of flexibility of said pack of cards. c 10 In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wis consin,
HARRY A. GRAY.
