l l I CHARLES R. LAMBERT, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO CLAYTON & LAMBERT MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION OF MICH- IGAN.
DUST-PROOF CAP FOR LIQUID-TANK FILLERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 4:, 1919.
Application filed. February 5, 1917. Serial No. 146,621.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES R. LAMBERT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of WVayne 'and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dust- Proof Caps for Liquid-Tank Fillers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to tanks, such as are used for the holding of liquid fuel in small furnaces, torches, etc., and has particular reference to the construction of the cap for the fill opening.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a section through a ortion of a tank provided with a fill opening, showing my improved construction of cap applied thereto;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the cap;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation thereof.
A is the tank, which is provided with the internal screw-threaded fill opening 13, and having the funnel C surrounding the same. D is a screw-threaded plug for engaging and closing the opening B, said plug being provided with the handle portion E projecting upward above the funnel C. F is a dust cap, preferably formed of sheet-metal, and of a size to fit over the funnel 0, being provided with a depending marginal flange G. The cap is apertured for the passage of the handle E therethrough, the latter being provided with the ledge H forming a seat for the cap F, which may be secured by riveting, soldering or any other suitable means.
In use, when the plug D is inserted in the aperture B and secured to its seat, the cap F will cover the funnel C and the depending flange G will exclude dust. On the other hand, when the plug is removed for refilling the cap F is carried therewith.
What I claim as my invention is:
The combination with a tank having a fill opening and a funnel projecting upward therefrom, of a cap comprising a threaded plug provided with a handle extending upward above said funnel and having a ledge or shoulder thereon, a sheet-metal cap apertured for the passage of said handle and secured upon said ledge, said cap being provided with a depending flange for surrounding the upper edge of said funnel when said plug is secured to its seat in the fill opening.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
CHARLES R. LAMBERT.
