To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JAMES L. MoHUGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of WVashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tobacco-Pouches; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, andexact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. r

The invention relates to improvements in tobacco pouches.

The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of tobacco pouches and to provide a, simple, practical and ellicient device adapted to be readily applied to a-tobacco pouch 'or analogous receptacle and capable of easy operation to open and closethe mouth of the tobacco pouch and adapted, when arranged for opening the mouth of the tobacco pouch, to maintain the same in aspread condition so that tobacco may be cigarette paper to facilitate the rolling of cigar ttes.

It is also an object of the invention to provide a device of this character which will also enable the. mouth of the tobacco pouch to be readily spread and opened as wide as desired and maintained in such open position by pressure so that the tobacco may be supplied to a pipe as well as to a cigarette.

With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the claims hereto appended; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction, within the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention. e

In the accompanying drawing, in which is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention, the device, which is adapted to hold a tobac'co pouch open or closed, comprises in its construction a frame of apperspective view of the device proximately U-shape-having sides 1 and a piece 4.- for holding the mouth of the bag or pouch open or closed as illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawing. The terminals of the cross pieces 3 and 4 are preferably coiled around the sides of the frame and they are securely retained thereon in spaced relation by clamps composed of atop 5, upper clamping portions 6 and 7, intermediate clamping portions 8 and 9' and lower portions 10. The bag or body 11 of the tobacco pouch may be constructed of soft leatheror any other suitable flexible material and its mouth portions 12 and 13 are secured to the spaced connecting bars or members 3 and 4 and are preferably wound around the same so that the bars or members 3 and 4: are covered by the mato be bowed to either terial of the bag or body ofthe pouch and stitching at the opposite sides of the top of the pouch when they are arranged exteriorly. The clamps are constructed of sheet metal and the lower clamping portions 10 grip either the frame directly or the pouch around the frame, while the upper and intermediate clamping portions embrace the sides of the frame at opposite sides of the terminals of the connecting bars or members 3 and 4.

As the bar 4 is shorter than the connecting baror member 3, the latter will be maintamed bowed 'and the tension of the bowed transverse bar or member will maintain the bar or member 4 straight so that the tobacco may be'sifted out of the pouch in a uniform manner over a cigarette paper from one end to the other of the same, the feed of the tobacco being controlled by the operator, and when it isdesired to supply tobacco to a pipe the sides of the frame may be compressed to bow both of the connecting bars or members, or the tobacco may be sifted out at one side with the mouth open as shown in Fig. 4.

What is claimed is:

1. A tobacco pouch including a substantially U-shaped frame adapted to extend around the pouch at opposite sides and the bottom of the same, and transverse bars or members extending across the frame at the top thereof and connected with the side portions of the mouth of the pouch, one of the bars or members being of greater length and disposed in a plane above the other and the side of the pouch attached to the same being extended so as to be carried across to the other side of bag.

2. A tobacco pouch including an open end bag and a substantially U-shaped frame the mouth for closing the A located in said bag, a member connecting the arms of the frame at a point spaced from the ends thereof and having one edge of the open end of the bag secured thereto, and a flexible member of a greater length than said member secured to the ends of the-arms of said frame and having the other edge of the open end of said bag secured thereto and adapted to be first bowed from the first named member to hold the bag open and then bowed in the other direction to overlie and extend'beyond the first named member for holding the bag closed.

3. A tobacco pouch including a frame having spaced sides located within the pouch, connecting bars or members extending across the frame and connected at their terminals with the same, said bars or'members being also connected with the pouch at the mouth portion of 'the same, and clamps having top, bottom and intermediate por tions embracing the frame and said intermediate portions being disposed between the connecting bars or members for maintaining the connecting .bars -or members from engaging each other.

4. A pouch having a mouth at one end and having sides of different lengths, the longer side extending beyond the shorter side at said end, a frame in said pouch, a spring member carried by the extension of the longer side and secured to the frame and adapted to be flexed inwardly and outwardly beyond the shorter side. to open and close said mouth, and a tension member secured to the frame and shorter side to maintain the spring member its flexed position.
