Description

Ma l 2 y lo 9 7 T. FRENCH DUST LAYING SPRAYING DEVICE Filed March 5, 1926 INVENTOR /'ltad M BY ATTORNEY Patented `May M), 1927.. v
'.rHoiviAs runner-i, or RU'iiiron-D, MAINE.
DUSTLAYING sraavriie :envien Application Yfiledl 5, 1926. vSerial No. `92,4418.
My invention relates to improvements in spraying devices such as alre'adapted for use inlaying dust, and more particularly laying the dust-as .it is beingplaced in a receptacle, bin, `or the like. n For example in taking up ashes the fine ashes anddiistido not fly to any appreciable extent until-they arerdiimped, and one object `of `my inven 'tion is to provide aspraying device whichr can-be conveniently applied to an ash can or receptacle. and in Which as ,the ashes are dumped, a fine film of Water-Will be discharged over the top ofthe v'receptacleso as'to enclose the dumped material andV pie. vent any ashesgor dustfroin' flying. I have found experiments that theaniount of Water necessary to Lproduce this finev film so small that it does not siilhciently'wet the Vcontents of the'receptacle so'as to cause them to freeze or leach, butit zdoes effectiiallylay the dust. yThe above illustrates Ya common application of the invention. vMy invention fis alsor intended, however, to produce a struetiire oi this jlriiid ivhicli can' be conveniently applied to most receptacles', and wwhich With a very small amount off Water will serve tov prevent dust Vfrom flying. and the apparatusivliieh I havedevised is therefore Ause- Vful in handlingashes, lcoal, coke, or other fuels, or in fact dusty material which not injured by the application of a small quantity of Water. I
To provide for the easy application and' Y use of the structure, I combine with a spray# ing nozzlea eontrolfvalve and clamp which can be secured to the top or other part of the receptacle, and which has a supply pipe extending from the .valve to the nozzle, and
'performing the double` function of Aa Water;
supply and the part of nozzle 'supporting` bracket. This will' be4 better understood from the following description.
Reference isto be'had to the aceompany-A 'iiiif drawings 'l'oiiiiiiig apart of this sgeeihcation, in which similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in all the views. Figure 1 is a side elevationof my improved spraying device as applied toaan ash can.- .Y l *l p yFigure 2 is a side elevation at right angles to the illustration in Figure l.
Figure 3 is an enlarged brokenl section` onthe line 3 8 of Figure le showing a type of valve and clamp for carrying the invention into effect, and
' F igiire Lis a broken elevation of the vvalve Y supporting clamp and Water pipe., f
`In carrying myinvention into etleet it is ,of course essential 'to provide a simple and ehieient meansfor supporting the spraying nozzle in the right position to do its Work. Tol this endl use a' clampl 10 which can beefA any approved kind, but which is preferably of the kind shown'ha'ving one arm 11 yextending downward Vso as to Abe opposite the outer wall of a receptacle, in the example shown an ash can, and having spaced inner arms A12l adapted toV fit against the inner walt of the i'eceptable. 12 arepreferably provided With broadened (langes 14V at their extremities, Aand Athe arm 11 is-fitted with a thumb`sereiir V13 which can be turned inward so as to impinge against one Wall of thereceptacle to Which the clamp is appliedand thus securely hold the clamp in place. Obviouslyother tightening clamps might be used Without affect ing the invention. 'f
On the clamp is supported a valve casing' 15 which is preferably pivotallyr supported,
These arnis havingto thisxend' a trunnion 16 on its under V'side which turns Vin theiipper.A part .of the clamp as shown in. Figure 3.12 The object of this vis to enable the valve easingfto turn vor sivivel so as' to provide a ilexiblefconneetion With a supply pipe or hose. While l.' have sh'oivn the preferred type of valve, any suitable valve can be used. As illustrated the valve has a AWeb 17 with an opening .therethrough in Which seats theV vertically movable valve proper 18, this having a stem 19 sliding in the trunnion 16 of the valve casing. The valve is closed by the Water pressure, and is raised by a lever 2O which is pivotedas shown atY 22betiveen the arms 21 ony the valve casing, and extends outward as shoivn so that it may be pushed downward by hand to raise the valve 18 and kopen it tothe flow of Water, or When arranged as illustrated the person dumping the ashes can let his shovel handle rest on. the
lever 20-as he dumps the ashes inthe can,
and the Weight ofthe shovel will open the valve. -This is a convenient and preferred arrangement. Y i
It vivill be seen by reference to the drawings that the valve-has a threaded inlet'QS,
though obviously other means can be provided for connecting with a hose or pipe,
and I also have a removable plug 211 in the top of the casing 25 so that in case of elog- `sach size so as to direct tha ging or for other raaaona the interior oi the valve casing' can be readily raarhml.
The outlet sitio ot the valve -asingf 125 Connects with a pipe 26 which servos the4 (loable pnrpoae ol a hrarkat arm and water supply pipo` ior the Spraying novizio 52T.
