To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MARLA E. HOLDEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Yonkers, in the county of Westchester and State'of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Hoops; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to toys and the primary object of the invention is to provide a toy hoop which may have a handle connected thereto, for propelling the hoop, if it is so desired, and which hoop is provided with a hub block through which a plurality of spokes extend, which spokes are provided for bracing the hoop proper; and further to provide a pair of figures which are positioned one upon each side of the hub block of the hoop so that'the center of gravity of the figures will be below the axis of the hoop, so that the figures will remain stationary during the rotation of the hoop.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, this invention consists in such novel features of construction,combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to theaccompanying drawings wherein like characters designate like and corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved hoop, I

The hub block is provided with a bore 3, formed therein at the axis of the hoop 1, and a pin 1 extends through the bore 3 and has the forked ends 5 and 6 of a Specification of Iiettrs latent.

handle 7 rotatably mounted thereon, and held in proper position by means of nuts 8 and 9. If it is so desired, the handle 7 may be eliminated.
The hub block 2 is provided with a pair of openings 10 and 11 extending therethrough in one direction one being positioned on each side of the bore 3 and heavy wire spokes 12 extend through the openings 10 and 11 and have their ends secured to the inner surface of the hoop 1. The hub block 2 is further provided with openings 14. and 15 which extend transversely to the openings 10 and 11 and which are positioned outwardly of the openings 11, and in diagonally opposite corners of the block, as clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings. Heavy wire spokes ,16 extend throughthe openings 1 1 and 15 and have their ends secured to the inner surface of the hoop 1 for coacting with the spokes 12 in bracing the hoop.
A suitable figure, indicated at 18 is mounted upon each side of the hub block 2. In Fig. 1 of the drawings, the figure illustrates a soldier on horse back, but it is to be understood that any suitable or desired figure may be employed in lieu of the one illustrated in the drawings without departing from the spirit .of this invention. The figures 18 are loosely mounted uponthe pin 4 so that their centers of gravity will be below the pin 4, and consequently below the axis of the hoop 1, which will allow the figures to remain stationary during the rotation of the hoop, causing them to always be in their proper upright position.
As will be noted more clearly from Fig. 2, the spokes 12 and 16 are positioned at opposite sides of and equidistant from the transverse central plane of the rim of the hoop, and these spokes extend truly radially of the hoop so as to be positioned within the outline thereof thus permitting the two figures 18 to be positioned at opposite sides of, and closely adjacent to, the hoop rim, the figures being out ofthe path of movement of the spokes. Also, the spokes 12 and 16 which are disposed at right angles to each other, may be readily inserted through the cores provided through the hub block thus rendering it possible to quickly and easily assemble the device, the hub block being eifelcitually secured in central position by the spo es.
In the drawings, the horse of the figure, has its legs 20 pivotally connected to the body as shown at 21, so that during the rotation of the hoop movement will be imparted to the horses legs to give it the appearance of alloping. However, this feature is to be Ieft to the discretion or desires of the person manufacturing the same and the legs may be formed integrally with the body if so desired.
In Fig. 5 of the drawings, a modified form of the hub block is shown, which hub block, is indicated by the numeral 2 and is made of sheet metal or tin, being hollow, and provided with a bore 3* to receive the pin 4 and with suitable openings 30 which receive the spokes of the hoop structure.
In Fig. 6 of the drawings, a modified form of the handle for use for propelling the hoop is illustrated. This modified form of handle is formed of a strand of wire, bent as clearly illustrated in the view to fit easily around the edge or rim of the hoop for propelling the same, and it is to be understood that this type of handle may be employed in lieu of the handle structure previously described, if it is so desired.
In reducing the invention to practice, certain minor features of construction combination and arrangement of parts may necessitate alterations to which the patentee is entitled provided such alterations are comprehended within the scope of what is claimed.
IVhat is claimed is 1. In-a device of the character stated, a hoop, a hub block positioned centrally thereof and provided with spaced bores disposed substantially at right angles to each other and remote from the center of the block, said block being further provided with a central transverse bore, a pin extending loosely through the central bore of said block, spokes extending through the other bores of the block and having their ends secured to said hoop, said spokes being disposed radially of the hoop and positioned Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressingtlie within the outline thereof, and figures loosely mounted on said pin adjacent each side of the block. i

In a device of the character stated, a hub block provided with a central transverse bore, said block being further provided with two spaced horizontal bores disposed at right angles to said central bore and in a common plane, and with two vertical bores disposed at diagonally opposite corners of the block, spokes inserted through said horizontal and vertical bores of the block and having their ends secured in said hoop, the spokes beingdisposed radially of said hoop so as to effectually support and brace the same at the center and at points at opposite sides and equidistant from the center thereof, said spokes being positioned within the outline of the hoop, a pin inserted throughthe centralbore ofthe block, and figures loosely mounted 011 said pin adjacent the opposite sides of the block. 3. Ina deviceof the character stated, a hoop, a hub block positioned centrally thereof and provided with spaced parallel bores extending through the block in the central plane thereof, said block being furtherprovided with bores extendingtherethrough at 'right cngles to the first mentioned bores and positioned adjacent the diagonally opposite corners of the block, and spokes inserted through said bores of the block and secured to said hoop, said spokes being disposed radially of the hoop whereby said hoop isbraced and supported at points at the transverse center thereof and at opposite sides of and equidistant from its transverse center.
