Description

B. MOORE AND G. 0. STANSBURY. PUMPING JACK F03 OIL WELLS.. 'APPucA'noN man mm2, ma.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENTON MOORE, F CHERRYVALE,KANSAS, AND GARRETT 0. STANSBURY, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
`IP''MPIN(ir-JACK FOR OIL-WELLS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
VPatented May 20, 1919.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that we, BENTON MOORE and GARRETr O. STANSBURY, citizens of the United States, and respectively residing at Cherryvale, Montgomery county, Kansas, and Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain ,new and useful Improvements in Pumping- Jacks for Oil-Wells, Of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pumping jacks, and has for its object to produce a simple, strong, durable and elicient jack for imparting extended reciprocating movement to the pumping rod of an oil well.
With this general object in view, the invention consists in certain novel and useful features of construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter described and claimed; and in Order that it may be fully understood, reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1, is a side elevation of a pumping jack embodying the invention.
Fig. 2, is a top plan view Of the same.
In the said drawing 1 indicates the head of a well casing, 2 the barrel, 3 the spout, and 4 the pumping rod, the latter being equipped with an adjustable clamp 5.
6 is a suitable support or frame for a brace guide 7 engaging the pumping rod 4 to prevent bending of. the same when in operation as hereinafter referred to.
Mounted upon the support or frame is a pair of brackets 8 forming a support for a rocking pin 9 upon which is mounted a substantially L-shaped lever 10 pivotally `connected to an actuating rod 11. The L-shaped lever preferably comprises two members connected at their lower ends by a pin 12 equipped with a roller 13, and resting on said roller is a lever 14 fulcrumed at 15 On the support Or frame 6. At its Opposite or free end the lever is pivotally connected by an upright rod 16 to lever 17 havin pin and slot connectionat 18. The lever 17 at the opposite side of rod 16 from the pumping rod, is pivotally connected by a link rod 19 to the lever 14.
As the rod 11 is reciprocated by any suitable means, such as common in the oil fields, it rocks lever 10, and said lever imparts vertical rocking movement to lever 14, increasing its leverage thereon by moving to- Gopin o! tlm potent may bo obtained tor ward the free end of said lever as the upward movement thereof is effected.
The upward movement of said lever through the connections described effects upward movement of the pumping rod, and in order to impart a longer upward movementv to the pumping rod than that described by the free end of said lever, the lever 17 lis employed, it being obvious that as the lever 14 moves upward, it simultaneously bodily raises and pivotally operates the lever 17, the bodily movement of the lever 17 augmenting the maximum movement of the lever 14.
When 'the lifting force is removed, the weight of the pumping rod will cause the same to drop down to its original position and incidentally return levers 14 and 10 to their initial positions.
From the above description it will be apparent that we have produced a pumping jack embodying the features Of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the object of the invention, and which can be changed in minor particulars vwithout departing from the principle of construction involved or sacrificing any of theadvantages of the appended claims.
We claim:
1. A pumping jack comprising a lever, a second lever fulcrumed above and underlying the rst lever and adapted to constantly change its point of engagement with the latter, a third lever for engagement with a part to be lifted, and a pair of rods connecting the first-named lever and said third lever.
2. A pumping jack comprising a suitable support, a lever fulcrumed on said support, a second leverl fulcrumed above the first-named lever and forming a slidable support for the latter, reciprocatory means to operate said second lever, a third lever for engaging the Obj ect to be operated, a rod pivotally connecting said third lever at an intermediate point with said first-named lever, and a rod pivotally connecting the rear end of said third lever with said firstnamed lever at an intermediate point thereof.
In testimony whereof we allix our signatures.
BENTON MOORE. QARRETT O. s-TANsBURY.
