PUMP-JACK.
Application filed March 26, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TVILLIAM LIVELY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Quana-h, in the county of Harde- :man and State of Texas, have invented 061132111 new and useful Improvements in Pump-Jacks, of which the following is a adjustment the stroke maybe increased four times the length of adjustment of the adjusting element. Other objects and advantages will befully explained in the follow ing description and the invention will be more particul. rly pointed out in the claims.
Reference is had "to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this appli cation.-
Figure 1 is a front elevation of thepumpjack, showing the pump cylinder in broken section. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is 'a detail plan View of the upper cross-head. Fig. A is a detail elevation of the same. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the lower cross-head.
Similar characters of reference are used to indicate the same parts throughout the several views.
The pump jack is provided with a base frame having cross-beams 1 and 2 and uprights 3. The bearings 4: for the power shaft 5 of the power wheel 6 are mounted on the beams 2 which may be of angle iron. A pinion 7 is mounted on the shaft 5 for driving the pump-actuating wheel 8. The
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 29, 1919.
Serial No. 224,874.
The wheel 8 actuates the cross heads 18 and 19 by means of the pitman rods 26 and cranks 25. The pitman rods 26 are adjustably connected to the cranks 25 so that the stroke can be varied. The pitman rods 26 are pivotally connected to depending lugs 38 on the cross-head 18. As the wheel 8 moves the cross-head 18 upwardly, there is an upstroke of the exterior piston rod 21. At the same time, the cross-head 18 drives the connecting rod 31 upwardly and moves the walking beam 15 up on that side of the machine. This action forces the rod 36 downwardly and so forces the cross-head 19 downwardly simultaneously with the move ment of the cross-head 18 upwardly and the cross-head 19 causes a down-stroke of the interior piston rod 20' simultaneously with terior pump rod, cranks rigid with said shaft and pitman rods connecting said cranks to said lower cross-head, and operative connections whereby said actuating wheel reciprooates both cross heads in opposite directions simultaneously.
2. In a double acting pump jack provided with a frame and exterior and interior piston rods, an upper cross head for said interior piston rod, and a lower cross head for said exterior piston rod, a single actuating wheel provided with a shaft journaled in said frame, a pair of cranks rigid with said shaft and a pair of pitma-n rods connected to said cranks and to said lower cross-head for reciprocating said lower cross head vertically in said frame, a walk ing beam fulcrumed on said frame, means connecting one end of said walking beam to said lower cross head, and means connecting the other end of said beam to said upper cross head whereby said piston rods are moved"'- ertically in opposite directions simultaneously,
3. In a double acting pump jack provided with a frame and exterior and interior pump rods, a pair of cross heads one of which is connected to said exterior piston rod and an upper cross head connected to said interior pump rod, a walking beam fulcrumed on said frame with one end connected to the other lower cross head and the other end connected to said upper cross head, two pairs of vertical guide rods for said lower cross heads rigid with said frame and an actuating wheel operatively connected to said lower cross heads for reciprocating said upper and lower cross heads in opposite directions simultaneously.
4. In a double acting pump jack provided with a frame and exterior and interior pump rods, a walking beam fulcrumed'on said frame, a lower cross head connected to said exterior pump rod and a lower cross head connected to said walking beam, means for making said cross-heads rigid with each other, vertical guide rods for said cross heads rigid with said frame, an upper cross head, means connecting said upper cross head to said walking beam, an actuating wheel provided with a shaft. journaled in said frame, cranks rigid with said shaft, and pitman rods connecting said cranks to said lower cross-heads.
In testimony whereof, I set my hand, this 2nd day of March, A. 1)., 1918.
WILLIAM LIVELY.
