UNITED STATES EUGENE H. HARDING, OEPEILADELPEIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CASTERS FOR STOVE-LEGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,550, dated July 16, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EUGENE H. HARDING, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Self-Regulating Caster for Stove-Legs, &c. ;'and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of my invention.
This invention has relation to stove-legs; and the novelty consists in the hereinafterdescribed construction and arrangement of adjustable caste-rs, which may be let down, when required, to enable the stove to be easily moved.
Referring to the accompanying drawing i1- lustratin g this invention, A represents a stoveleg; B, the dovetailed or beveled shank by which it is attached to the stove. D designates a horizontal plate formed on the back part of the leg. E is a tube running from the shank B to the plate D. This tube passes through said plate, is formed with an internal screw-thread its entire length, and is open at its lower end to receive the shank E of a caster-spindle. The tube E may be properly socured to the shank B by having a thread cut on its upper end and said end turned into a hollow screw in said shank. The shank of the caster-spindle is threaded to correspond to the thread of the tube,-and is therefore adjustable, so that the caster may be let down when used and raised when the stove is at rest. F represents the caster-spindle; .G, the casterwheel; H, a thumb-screw, passing through one side of the spindle and brought in-contact with the casterwheel. as to prevent the caster-wheel from turning when it is raised.
