To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MICHAEL J. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supporters, of

j which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a supporter for garments which is essentially adapted to be attached to the inner waist portion of a pair of trousers.

The object of the invention is to provide the trousers with a pair of pads positioned adjacent to the hips of a person for preventing the garment from sagging 0r dropping downward.

Another object of the invention is to provide the pad with a cushion of arched configuration to set over the hips and compensate for any movement of the garment or body.

Another object of the invention is to equip the pad with a resilient plate for absorbing longitudinal or transverse movements of the body in relation to the pad.

The novel features of the invention are more fully described in the following specification and claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 represents a perspective view showing the upper portion of a pair of trousers.

Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a pad.

In this drawing the numeral 5 designates a pair of trousers of ordinary construction. At the inner waist portion of the trousers opposite to each other are attached a pair of pads, each including an outer layer of fabric 6 to cover the pad. The lower portion of the fabric has a protuberance 7 to form a tubular pocket. This pocket is filled or stuffed with cotton 8 or other yielding material. A row of stitches 9 is made to fasten the upper parts of the pocket together. Between the outer layers of fabric in the body of the pad is located a thin spring plate 10 shaped to conform to the pad above the stitches. The pad can be fastened to the trousers by means of snap fasteners 11 with the stud preferably mounted on the pad and the socket on the trousers.

As indicated in Fig. 2, the lower portion of the pocket is arch shaped to conform to the upper curvature of the hips. The invention eliminates bunching or wrinkling of the garment at the waist band giving it a perfect fit and holding it tightly to the body so that suspenders or belt can be entirely dispensed with. The arched pocket at the lower portion provides a cushion yielding in all directions for easing up its contact with the hips. The spring plate in the body of the pad will absorb any circumferential strain and always shape itself to the curvature of the body.

It will be readily understood that when the pad is in use the tubular lower portion can swing a certain distance with the top of the tube below the lower end of the spring plate approximately on a line with the stitches, as a hinge joint. The tubular part thus gives rolling contact with the body to take up any longitudinal pull on the garment.

I claim 1. A garment supporter comprising a pad having a protuberant lower member provided with a concaved lower edge for engagement with the hips.

2. A garment supporter comprising a pad having a fiat body portion, and a protuberant tubular member located at the lower part of the body, said member having a concaved lower edge for engagement with the hips.

3. A garment supporter comprising a pad having a fiat body portion, a tubular pocket contiguous with the lower part of the body, said pocket having a concaved lower edge, and a stuffing in the pocket for yielding coaction with the hips.

4. A garment supporter comprising a pad having a resilient plate, fabric covering the plate, an arched protuberance at the lower portion of the fabric to form a pocket, and a stuffing in the pocket to cushion the profluberance for yielding coaction with the In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
