Description

C. K. HAUGEN.
TOY. APPLICATION FILED MAY H'. 19H3.:
*' Patented Jan. 14, 1919.
57 INVENTOR ATTORNEY .application med le., 19113 To all, whom t amy comerse;
, Be it known that L CARL K; HAUGEN, a citizen' of, the United tates, residing at Portland, in the county of Traill and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new andL useful improvements in Toys, of which. the following is a speciration.
` This invention relates to toys, and more particularly to manually propelled oliildrens vehiclesw The object o? the invention is to provide a cheaply construeted, simple, strong toy of this character in Willi-,li a eliild can ride and propel and guide it with his feet.
Another object is to provide a toy o this character the body of which has foot supports disposeclconvenient for use luf the rider when coasting, said body .beinga out oury t0 facilitate propelling et' the car and to provide the foot supports.
With the foregoing-and other olijerts in View, which ,will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the oomhination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construrtion hereinafter de scribed and claimed, it being understood that changes in. the precise embodiment oi the invention herein disclosed may lie iliade Within the scope of what ie :lainied without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings:-
Figure l represents a side elevation of the toy constituting this invention,
Fig. 2 is a plan View thereof, and
Fig. 3 is a front elevation with parts broken out.
In the .embodiment illustrated, a fiat body 1 is shown composed of a board or other suitable material with a seat 2 tormed'at the rear and a hoodsliaped member 8 at its front to simulate the appearance of an automobile. Extending around the rear portion of the seat 2 is an upstanding flange i to form a vback or abutment for the rider.
, A hand grip 5 shaped to represent a, steering Wheel extends upwardly and rearwardly from `the hood 3 and is .mounted on the inclined post 6 Whichsimulates the steering` post of an autoinobiie The side edges of the body or board l are cut away in advanre of the seat 2 as is shown clearly in Fig, 2 so as to renderI the body narrow at this point to :facilitate the pro pulsion of the vehicle by the engagement of the riders feet with the surface over which it is passing and the 'front ends o said out the rear oi lient laterally mx'a'r'd as shown :it la to form Serial Kto. SQ/BS.
af'ay portions form foot supioits at, l. on which the ridei"s 'feet may rest when eoasti This body l moua on liront and rear standarflf-i, the rear eamlard i being in the .torni ol an inverted truncated lf-sliaijied member rozuposed of lieae'y strap iron ,with
'a cross bar 8 at its truncated end bolted to the rear portion oi? the body under the seat 2 and a oroas oar Il" braces and connects the members il of said standard '4" as shown clearly in Figi. 3. Tia se members 9 diverge toward their lower raids and have their torn niinals intuincd to ferm attaching; feet as shown at i); rollers li lig li are swiw vieil thereto and made o?" any suitable or flesiied, ronstrurtiou, here shown in the form of casters.
A heavy metal strap il arranged longitudinally on the lower fi ec of the body l. and bolted th'eretm its rear end lining; down 'ardly int-,lined shown at l2 and bolted to the cross leas' l0 which connects the niemliors 9 of the standard 2. This luc-lined por tion l2 of the strap il operaba: to brace the i'oliiilf at its rear ond. The front end of this stragi il extends to the iront of the: Veliii-lo and thon extended downwardly at right angles to form the liront standard i3 wlzirli is positioned midway the width of the liody and carries at its lower end the swivolml roller l? similar lo those used at 'fle vehicle, This i'4tai'ulard 13 is a support lor the roller l? and then extends upwardly and roarwariiljv at an ii'ioliiie as shown at l5 lo form a brace having its terminal i6 'bolted to the cody of the stra* 11 at a point directly lvelor the inner en of hood 3 (see Fig'. 1l.
From the ahove description. .it Will be ol3 vious that this vehicle, Whiieery simpie in construction is strong and serviceable and may be cheaply constructed? lia'ifi:v g, few parts to loeeoioe broken or disemin the use of the vehicle, the on rourso on with his the cutout body poi" seat so that his feet may the surface over which the vehicle is to travel.21 and it is to be understood that 'he will use lus feet for both propelling andfguiding the vehicle, the hand grip 5 being' simply used when coastino" il found neeessary.
The foregoing deseription and the drawings have to may he oousidf as shown d viii et straddimg' tion in advance of the ered the preferred or approved forni of my 'invent-ion.. It is t0 be underetood that l may 'make such changes in construction und :1rrangen'ient and Combination of parte, niete- 5 rials, dimensions, etc., as may prove expedient and fell wiliin the scope of the claimed iifufentlonn g Having thus fully described my inven* tion, what l claim :is new and desire to sei9v cure by Letters Patent, is;-
In :i device of the class described, a body having :i truncated iJshaped member ab ranged transversely of its rear end o foi-m rfepending standards with rollers swiveled memes? to heir lower ends, :i bracing strap extended longitudinally of the body and secured thereto, with its rezirend downwardly ini'lined and secured to the standards at the relu' ol. lie lvehicle, lend iis front end shaped to ,jim-in 1: depending roller carrying standard lwith i bracing member connecting' it to the body of the vehicle.
In estimony whereof l ziflix my signature in presence of two witnesees.
