To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LUTHER C. TrioMrson, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented a new and Improved Founder WashingMachine, the following of which is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, that will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings that form a part of this specification.

The object of this my invention is to provide a reciprocating pressure board that rests upon the bottom of the suds-box, the top thereof being supported by a pair of oscillating side braces that are pivoted to the draw head of the reciprocating pressure board, the opposite ends being pivoted to a pair of brace blocks, that are rigidly supported upon the horizontal bottom of the suds-box. A connecting rod is inserted in the slot provided in the end 0 of the sudsbox, and the end thereof bolted to the drawhead. The opposite end may be connected with any desired source of power, that will reciprocate the pressure board, and thereby create the vertical oscillating movements of the pressure board as supported by the horizontal bottom of the suds-box, and by the oscillating side braces that produces a revolving movement of the fabrics and exposing all of the parts thereof to the cleansing process.

The machine is constructed and operated as follows:

The suds-box is constructed with a hori zontal bottom T, the ends 0 and T being connected with the bottom T, the end 0 having a slot S to receive the connecting rod A. The cleansing board consists of a series of rounds S S, the lower ends thereof being rigidly supported on the bottom T, and parallel one with the other, the upper ends thereof slanting inwardly, and being rigidly secured with the cross; piece 2 that is supported in position by the sides of the suds-box at 1 and 1, and thereby forming a suds-pocket between the end board T and the cleansing board S. The brace blocks L and L are rigidly supported upon the bottom T of the suds-box. The oscillating brace .levers K and K are pivoted at the lower ends to the brace blocks L and L at O and O. The upper ends are pivoted to the pressure board R by journals provided on the ends of draw-head V, that are inserted in the ends of brackets N N, and

forming a. pivot for the ends of the oscillat ing bars K K. The dotted lines R N and V represent the oscillating vertical movements of the reciprocating pressure board. A valve opening C permits the suds to pass from the box. Any desired power may be applied to the connecting rod A at A to reciprocate the pressure board R. In Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 a lever E is shown connected with the suds-box, by the bracket 9, the upper end thereof being hinged with the connecting rod A, and the lower end thereof being connected with the crank 4.- by the rod 7 that is journaled on the crank 4: at 5, and pivoted to the lever E at 5.

Having thus described my invention, what; I claim as new in a pounder washing machine, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A suds box having a horizontal bottom, a pressureboard, a pair of brace blocks rigidly supported on the said horizontal bottom, a pair of oscillating brace bars, the lower ends thereof pivoted to the brace blocks, the opposite ends pivoted to the pressure board, all connected in a manner to provide the oscillating and vertical movements of the pressure board as herein set forth, and for the purpose herein specified.

2. In a pounder washing machine, a rectangular suds-box having a horizontal bottom,brace blocks fixed at the rear end of said bottom, a cleansing board at the front end, forming a suds pocket between same and the adjacent end board, a reciprocating pressure board supported upon the horizontal bottom of the suds-box, a rearwardly extending bracket fixed thereon, a pair of 0scillating side bars pivoted at the upper ends thereof to said bracket of the pressure board, and also pivoted at the opposite ends on the movement of the pressure board as shown and described and for the purpose set forth.
