Description
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASHING'MAC HINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 129,031, dated July 16, 1872.
Specification describing anew and Improved Washing Machine invented by JONATHAN HUNSBERGER, of Skippack, in the county of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania.
My invention consists of the peculiar construction of the dash-board and relative arrangement of the brake for working the movable one with it and the case, all as hereinafter described.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of a washing-machine constructed according to my improvements, the section being taken on the line m a; of Fig. 2 3 and Fig. 2is a sectional elevation of the same, taken on the line 3 y of Fig. 1.

A is a case, B a fixed board, andG a swinging board or dasher, arranged in a manner similar to some machines heretofore made. My improvement in the said boards consists of the vertical ribs D on the fixed board, and E on the movable board, with blunt sharp edges, arranged in the order indicated in Fig. 2, in which the movable board is turned bottom side up on its supporting-rod, the said order being so that the ribs on one board come in the middle of the spaces on the other board. Commonly these boards have been made with only the longitudinal ribs. I have found by practical tests that these vertical ribs increase the eificiency of machines of this character.
I pivot the brake or levers G to the machine at H instead of "on the upper ends of posts fixed on the frame to rise considerably above it, as heretofore arranged, and I connect them to the board 0 by the cross-bars J K, and a rod, I, in such manner that the free ends rise up at the front side of. the machine properly for the application of the power. This plan simplifies the cost considerably, and the arrangement is preferable, because the swinging of the brakes upward and backward to raise the board 0 out of the machine can be JONATHAN HUNSBERGER.
