IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-PIPE FITTERS..

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,001, dated May 21, 1872.

Specification describing a new and Improved Stove-Pipe Fitter, invented by WILLIAMVOLK,

of Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York.

The object of this invention is to provide a simple, durable, and effective device for fitting stove-pipe together, as, for instance, where the two parts are of the same size, or where bruised or out of shape; and it consists in aframe and two levers arranged to operate upon thepipes, as hereinafter described.

In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 rep- Fig. 2 is a view showing the corrugated jaws and levers. Fig. 3 shows the opposite side and the smooth jaws and levers.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

A is the frame, having two jaws, B and O, with lugs for two levers, D and E. The jaw B is corrugated or serrated, and the jaw (J is smooth, but round or circular on its inner side. Each jaw is provided with a lever of corresponding form, confined by fulcrum-pins F G to the lugs H and I. The corrugated or serrated lever D fits into the jaw B, as seen in Fig. 2. The Stovepipe is seen in dotted lines with this jaw and lever applied. By the application of this jaw and lever to the pipe the latter is made to partake of the form of the jaw,

and its end is consequently reduced in diameseen in Fig. 3, the jaw being upon the inside and the face of the lever on the outside of the pipe, the tendency of which is to expand or smooth out the pipe. the pipe are operated upon in this mannerthat. is, one corrugated or serrated, as seen in Fig. 2, and the other expanded, as seen in Fig. 3-they will fit together and may be joined without difficulty. Should either part be bruised at the end the application of the smooth jaw and lever quickly removes the bruises. The application of either pair of jaws and levers will vary the size of the pipe sufficiently to allow the lengths to be joined.

I do not limit or confine myself to the precise form or arrangement of any of the parts described, as they may be varied without departing from my invention.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A device or apparatus for fitting stove-pipe,

consisting of the frame A, jaws B O, and levers D E, arranged substantially as described.
