MOLDING-DISPLAY CABINET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 11, 1918.
Application filed. March 20, 19 17. Serial No. 156,015.
To all whom it'may concern: 7
Be it known that we, GEORGE OHDE, J'r., and WILLIAM OHDE, citizens of the United States, residing at Manning, in the county of Carroll and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Molding-Display Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to a molding display cabinet, and is especially designed for the use of traveling salesmen for the purpose of enabling them to more readily introduce, display, and sell the goods.
The main object of our invention is to provide a simple, economical, durable and efiicient cabinet for displaying moldings, of any suitable size, for the display of said moldings by traveling salesmen, or for use in an office or store for the introduction and disposal of the moldings to the public.
A further object of the invention is to provide a molding display cabinet having a series of hinged leaves or frames within the same, to each of which leaves or frames is transversely and fixedly secured a series of different types or styles of moldings, and adjacent to, each sample of molding is fixedly secured a convenient card designating the number of the molding, the price, the.
number of feet on hand or in stock, and the number of the rack, stall or place where the molding is kept, then by reference to the card the amount desired may be easily obtained.
The foregoing and such other objects as may appear from the ensuing description, are attained by the novel features of construction, arrangement and location of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the claims appended hereto, it being understood that slight changes in the form, proportion, and minor details of the construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Reference now being had to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification and in which s1m1lar numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the several. views, it'will be seen that Figure 1, is a perspective view of the im proved device embodying our invention.
Fig. 2, is a plan View of the inner face of the lid or cover of the cabinet removed therefrom, showing the diflerent samples of moldings and the cards securedthereto.
Fig.3, is a sectional elevation showingin full lines the cabinet in its closed condition,
and in dotted lines the position the series which is arranged adjacent to each sample a of the molding, and
, Fig. 6, is a detail sectional view of one of the leaves secured by a spring hinge to the base portion of the cabinet. v
In carrying out our invention as, illustrated, and which shows a referred construction, the numeral 1 deslgnates a cabinet which may be of any suitable or desirable size, and of any suitable material, having an open front and a hinged drop-leaf 2, secured to the base portion 3, said drop-leaf forming a closure for the front of the cas{ ing, and in which casinga series of mold ing and card carrying leaves or frames 4., are fixedly secured to a stepped or shelved filling block 5, by the spring hinges 6. To
the inner face of each of the saidleaves or 7,;
frames 4: is fixedly attached by screws 7, a i
series of different types or styles ofsample moldings 8, and adjacent to each of the samples is fixedly secured in any suitable manner a card 9 designating'theprice of each style of molding, the number. of the molding, the number of feet of the designated sample of molding carried in stock, and the number of the rack, stall or place in which the indicated sample of molding is kept in stock. Each 'of the said leaves 4 is. provided at its lower end with a lateral extension 10 adapted to rest in contact with the steps or shelves 11, formed on the upper face of the filling block 5, and the upper end portion of each of the leaves is provided with a lateral oppositely disposed projecting extension 12 adapted to rest against the rear face of the leaf in advance of it, when in upright or folded position, and to rest in contact with the upper faceoof the leaf beneath when in the unfolded or horizontal position shown by dotted lines in Fig.7 3, thereby separating each leaf, and avoiding the abrasion or soiling of the series of samples of moldings carried byveach leaf by contact of the leaves with the upperor inner surface of the said moldings.
The outer drop-leaf 2 forming the closure for the cabinet is provided at its lower end portion with an inward extension 13 forminga stop, and at its upper end portion with an outward oppositely disposed extension 14, which is adapted to contact with the support upon which the cabinet rests when the said leaf is caused to assume its unfolded or horizontal position, and the said extension 14 is provided with a suitable eye or staple 15, adapted to engage a suitable hook 16 pivotally secured to the top portion 17 of the cabinet.
Upon the upper face of the top portion of the cabinet is fixedly secured a suitable handle 18. by which the cabinet is conveyed. from one place to another. I It will be perceived that the projecting extension 12, secured'to the upper portion of each of the hinged leaves l, is provided with an opening 19 therethrough with a beveled entrance 20 formed around each opening on the lower face of saidrextension whereby each leafmay be readily engaged by one of the fingers of the operator in manipulating the leaves from their folded position within the cabinet to their down or unfolded position.
It will be seen that the spring hinges sist in returning each leaf to its proper position within the cabinet when the leaves are down or in their unfolded position.
It will be understood that each cabinet maybe provided with any suitable or desirable number of hinged leaves required for the purpose. of making a complete display of the stock'in hand.
The operation of our improved device for the purpose, will be readily obvious from the construction such as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
Having thus described our invention what we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A molding display cabinet comprising a front drop-leaf forming the closure, an integral stepped filling block secured within the base portion, a series of leaves hinged to said filling block, a lateral extension formed'on each leaf at its lower end portion, and an oppositely disposed lateral extension formed on each leaf at its upper end portion, each leaf and the closure adapted to carry a series of sample-moldings on the inner face thereof, and means for fixedly Tecuring said series of moldings to each eaf.
2. A molding display cabinet comprising a front drop-leaf hinged thereto forming the closure and provided with an inward extension secured to its lower end and an oppositely disposed lateral extension secured to its upper end, said upper extension carrye ing means adapted to engageahook pivoted to the top of the cabinet, a shelved filling block secured within the base portion, a series of leaves hinged to said filling block, each leaf having a lateral extension secured to its lower end adapted to contact with one of the shelves of the filling block and an op positely disposed lateral extension secured to its upper end adapted to contact with the face of the leaf secured in front of it, each of said upper extensions having a beveled portion formed on its lower face with an opening therethrough, and each leaf and the drop-leaf adapted to be provided with a series of sample moldings fixedly secured thereto by a plurality of screws GEORGE OHDE, JR. WILLIAM OHDE.
