COMBINATION-STAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 12, 1918.
Application lefl July 13, 1917. Serial No. 180,343.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOI-IN LAMEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Evansville, county of Vanderburg, and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in CombinationStands, of which the following is a specification.
rhis invention relates to combination stands.
My obj ect is to provide a stand which will serve as a pedestal, table, container for smoker-s articles, books, pictures, playlng cards, sewing articles and the like, and will also be convertible into a novel umbrella holder or stand.
The invention comprises certain novel features, combinations and adaptations of parts whereby it may be rapidly and easily converted from one form to another and, when closed up, will have the appearance of an ordinary pedestal or table.
The embodiment of the invention which is hereinafter set forth is to be considered as illustrative, rather than restrictive, of the scope of the invention, as the device-is susceptible of modifications and changes in details without departing from the essential features thereof.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1, is a perspective view showing the stand ready for use as a pedestal or table;
F ig. 2, a vertical section thereof;
Fig. 3, a perspective view showing the stand conditioned for use as an umbrella holder;
Fig. 4, a cross section through the drawer and drip pan, and
Fig. 5, a detail of the cover, thrown back, showing the umbrella rack or holder eX- tended.
The base 1 is surmounted by a pedestal 2 which supports a box-like top 3 having a When the cover or table 4 is down and the stand arranged as in Fig. 1, it is adapted for use as a pedestal or table.
The cover or table 4 is provided with metal guides 6 and preferably grooved at 7. A rectangular metal frame 8 has its side portions slidable in the guides 6 and grooves 7, and its inner cross portion 8a adapted to serve as a limiting stop to prevent the frame from being pulled out beyond a certain point. The outer cross portion 8b of the frame is shaped to form a plurality of umbrella holding recesses 8C.
Slidable in the base 1 is a drawer 9 whose .outer face is so formed that when the drawer is closed, said face appears as one side of the base 1. The drawer has a ledge 10 whose upper edge lies below the upper edge of the drawer. A removable metal drip pan 11 is located in the drawer and provided with flanges l2 which rest upon the ledge 10. The drip pan is wholly contained within the drawer and slides into the base 1 and is completely concealed thereby when the drawer is closed. Bein removable, the drip pan 11 can be readily taken out and the water emptied therefrom.
The drawer 9 being on the same side ofA the stand as the frame 8, the tips of the umbrellas rest in the drip pan and the upper portions in the recesses 8c.
lhen the cover or table 4 is down and the frame 8 slid inwardly and drawer 9 closed, the stand is adaptable for use as a pedestal or table, as shown in Fig. 1.
TvVhen the frame 8 and drawer 9 are pulled out, the cover 4 being down, the stand is converted into an umbrella holder and at the same time it is adapted to serve as a support for any object, as shown in Fig. 3.
The box-like top 3 is adapted to serve as a container for smokers articles, sewing appliances, books, medicines, pictures, playing cards, or any other articles which it is necessary or desirable to have conveniently at hand. On swinging back the cover or table 4, access may be had to the box-like top 3.
The stand may be either of metal or wood and provided with any suitable finish.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is :-4
1. A combination stand comprising a base, a pedestal rising therefrom, a box-like top secured to a pedestal, a hinged cover or table for said top, and an umbrella holder comprising a drip pan carried by the base and a rack carried by and extending out from the cover or table.
2. A combination stand comprising a base, a pedestal rising therefrom, a box-like top, a hinged cover or table for said top, and an umbrella holder comprising a slidable drip pan carried by the base and a slidable rack carried by the cover or table.
3. A. combination stand comprising a base, e pedestal .rising therefrom, e box-like topL secured to the pedestal', e hinged cover-or table for said top, and en umbrella holder comprising u slidable drip pan carried byYA the base and a laterally slidable rack carried.
by the hinged coyervor' table. y
4l. combination stand comprising a base,
e pedestal rising therefrom, u box-like top supported by the pedestal, a hinged cover or table for 'seid top', and mi umbrella holder comprising` a' slidable drip pan catrried by the base and a sldable rack carried Vby the Vhinged cover or table, said drip pan und rack being, respectively, adapted to be Copies of this patent may be obtained for `slid into the base and into the Governor table for purposes of concealment.
A self-contained, portable stand com-Y prising' ubase, u pedestal, a top supported by the. pedestal, e movable umbrellaJ holding device carried by the top and adapted In testimony whereof, I hereunto afx'my signature.
