IMPROVEMENT IN TOY-BLOCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,827, dated May 14, 1872.
Specification describing a certain Improvement in Alphabet-Blocks, invented by ELIZA- BETH H. MULDAUR, residing at Dover, in the county of Kent and State of Delaware.
This invention relates to alphabetblocks made in sections, upon each of which a portion of a letter is printed in such a posit-ion that on bringing the appropriate sections together into a block a complete letteris formed. My improvement consists in dovetailing the sections together so that they may be united into permanent blocks, as will be more fully set forth hereinafter.
Figure 1 is a plan view of a set of my improved alphabet-blocks inclosed in a suitable box. Fig. 2 represents an end View of one of the blocks. l
The same letters of referenoeare used in both figures in the designation of identical parts.
Each complete block has one letter of the alphabet painted or otherwise formed upon one of its flat sides, and consists of two parts or sections, A and B. The smaller section B is inserted in a corresponding recess in the larger section A, the upper surfaces of the two, being made flush with each other. A letter is then formed upon this divided surface of the block,
in part upon the section B and in part upon the section A, upon either side of the latter. Thesections are dovetailed together, as shown in Fig. 2, so that when once brought together into blocks the latter may be manipulated, without danger of coming apart, to construct simple words. WVhen the sections A and B are disunited, and all mixed together, it re-' quires some little ingenuity and patience to find the corresponding sections to form letters.
I am aware that it is not new to construct sectional alphabet-blocks, and do not claim this feature broadly. My invention is distinguished from others relating to this class of devices in so uniting the sections of the blocks that they cannot readily come apart.
What I claim as my invention, andv desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- An alphabet-block composed of sections A and B, which are dovetailed together, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
