To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JOHN L. NUTE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Shippensburg, in the county of Cumberland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Adjustable Mold-Jacket, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to improve ments in adjustable mold jackets, one object of the invention being the provision of a detachable and adjustable sectional mold jacket, adapted to be placed about the sand after the removal of the flask therefrom, and which can be readily accommodated to various sizes and shapes, the sections thereof being provided with a novel form joining means, which maintains the sections in the necessary position and so that the jacket may be readily moved into and out of place.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the com bination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawings-Figure 1 is a top plan View of the complete jacket assembled. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof, dotted lines illustrating another position that the opposite side walls are capable of assuming. Fig. 3 is a side elevation taken at right angles to that shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail plan View showing the method of securing the abutting ends of two sections together.

Referring to the drawings, the numerals 1 and 2 designate the female members or sections of the present jacket, while the numerals 3 and 4t designate the two male members or sections.

Each female member, as clearly shown in Fig. 8, is provided adjacent its ends with a. plurality of inclined slots 5, in the present instance two being shown, and with a plurality of vertical slots 6, there being two shown in this instance. These slots in reality form a mortise for the reception of the tenons 7 formed upon the opposite ends of each male member 3 or 4, said tenons being so constructed and shaped as to be readily inserted through one of the mortises or slots 5 or 6 to assume either a vertical position, as clearly shown in Fig. 3, where the pins 10 and 11 are disposed to enter any one of the various apertures 8 and 9 of the tenons 7 to thus lock the female members relatively against and to the male members of the jacket.

l Vhcn the female members assume the dotted position shown in Fig. 2, the pins are adapted to be disposed upon both sides of the said member so as to maintain it in a vertical position.

It will thus be seen that with this form of jacket, that the same when positioned, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, constitutes a support for the sand which in reality is a frusto-pyramidal member while when in the position as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the male members are disposed in a perpendicular position with the female members either in an inclined or perpendicular position according to the positioning of the pins 10 and 11. By this means it will be seen, that the sections or members may be secured in place for a specific or desired shape of mold, and that the same may be readily slipped on or off of the mold to maintain the same in the desired position after the removal of the flask therefrom.

l/Vhat is claimed is:

1. An adjustable mold jacket, comprising four strips, two of said strips adjacent the ends thereof being provided with mortises and constituting the female members of the jacket, and the remaining two strips being provided upon their ends with tenons for insertion in the mortises, and cooperating means detachably carried by the tenons and for abutment with the adjacent portion of the female members for locking the members in adjusted position, the mortises of the female members being disposed at varying angles relatively to each other, whereby the members when assembled will form a rectangular )r a frusto-pyramidal jacket.

2. An adjustable mold jacket, comprising four strips, two of said strips adjacent the ends thereof being provided with mortises and constituting the female members of the jacket, and the remaining two strips being provided with tenons for insertion in the mortises, the tenons of the male members being provided with two rows of apertures therethrough, pins insertible through the apertures and for abutting the adjacent portions of the female members for maintaining the mortise and tenon joints as my own, I have hereto affixed my signalocked, the mortlses of the female members ture 1n the presence of two wltnesses. belng disposed at varylng angles relatively to each other, whereby the members when JOHN LIVINGSTON NUTE' 5 assembled will form a rectangular or a fruslVitnesses:
