Description
F. C. BOTH.
Improvement in Butter-Dish Drainer.
Patented April 23, 1872.
FRIEND C. BOOTH, OF MERIDEN, ASSIGNOR TO THE MERIDEN BRITANNIA COMPANY OF WEST MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUTTER-DISH DRAINERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,876, dated April 23, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRIEND C. BOOTH, of Meriden, in the. county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Butter-Dish Drainer; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the. letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specitication', and represents, in-
Figure l, a central section ot' a butter-dish, showing the drain in solid black; and in Fig. 2, a section of the drain, full size.
This invention relates to an improvement in the construction of that part of a butter-dish commonly called the drainerthat is to say, the perforated plate upon which the butter is placed-the perforations affording a free passage for the water which comes from the melting of the ice placed upon the butter into the dish below.
These drainers have usually been made from soft metal, such as the dish itself is formed from, and is liable to be bent by the pressure in cutting the butter, and also in cleaning; and it' made from glass or other vitreous material they would be liable to break.
The object of this invention is to construct glazing of any suitable vitreous material, melt` ed or in solution, then cured by drying or baking until the coating material is sufficiently hard. This coats the whole surface, the edges and perforations, and makes a drainer possessing all the advantages of a glass, China, or earthen drainer, and without the objections which exist to these or metal drainers.
' I claim as my invention- As an article of manufacture, the herein-described drainer, made from metal and coated with a vitreous or similar material, substantially as described.
FRIEND C. BOOTH.
