Description
oTTo LINDEMANN.
Improvement in Bottoms of Bird Cages.
No. `20,755, Patented-Nov. 7,1m.
` FFICE.
OTTO LINDEMANN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOTTQMS OF BIRD-CAGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,755, dated November 7, 1871.`
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTTO LINDEMANN, of the city, county, and State Of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bird- Gages; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description thereof, which will-enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, which drawing represents a vertical central section of this improvement.
My invention relates more particularly to the construction of the bottom of a bird-cage from sheet-brass or other metal composition subject to corrosion, said bottom being composed of a dish with a central depression and outwardlyproject ing bead to catch in a corresponding recess at or near the top edge of the foot piece in such a mani ner that when the two parts have been united the surface of the dish remains unbroken and without a seam, and the formation of verdigris in the dish is eifectually prevented, and at the same time the dish and foot piece can be united without solder in a neat and expeditious manllBI'.
In the drawing, A designatesthe dish, which is left. solid throughout, or without a hole in its center, and which is provided with a central depression, a, the edge of which forms an Outward ly-projecting bead, b, as shown in the drawing. This bead is intended to catch in an annular recess, c, formed at or near the top edge of the foot piece B. By depressing the bead into said re- I cess and bending the top edge of the foot .piece inward over the bead the two parts, which constitute the bottom of a bird-cage, are firmly united without solder, and without showing a seam in the inner or upper surface of the dish A.
I am aware that the foot piece and dish, constituting the bottom of a bird-cage, have heretofore been united by cutting a hole in the center of the dish, depressing the edge of this hole, and forming at Or near the top of the foot piece an annular recess for the reception of said edge, as described in the patent of Osborn and Drayton, dated May 9, 1871.
By constructing the bottom according to my invention the inner surface of the dish shows no seam, and the unbroken surface can be easily protected against the influence of water by coating it with a suitable varnish.
I do not claim, broadly, as my invention, to unite the dish and foot piece without solder; but
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A birdcage bottom having a seamless inner face, in combination with the foot B, when the two are united together by means of the bead b, central depression a, and annular recess c, the whole constructed as and for the purpose set forth.
