IMPROVEMENT IN BEDSTEADS.

Specification forming part of Letters :Patent No. 125,653, dated April 9, 1,872.

To all whom it may concern: l

Be it known'that I, JOHN P. ZELLER, of South Bend, in the county of St. Joseph and in' the State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bedsteads; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.

The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a bedstead,77 which can be folded so as to occupy but little room when not in use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of my bedstead whe thrown open ready for use, and Fig.2 is a perspective View of the same when folded.

A A represent the head and tail boards or endpieces of my bedstead, both made of the same size, and ornamented in any desired manner. These end pieces are divided vertically at about one-third their width from one side, and the twoparts hinged together. The frame B, or rather the cross-pieces of said frame, are

hinged to correspond with the divisions ofthe end pieces. -Upon this frame B are placed the spring bed-bottom G and mattress D. In the ends of the front side piece ofthe frameB are hooks a a, which enter notches or recesses in the front legs of the end pieces, and catch on pins z' z in the same, thus holding the bed thrown out in position for use. On the center cross-piece of the frame B is hinged a leg, E, which is thrown down to support the center of the bed, and held by a pivoted key, G,

entering a notch in the same.

During the day-time, when this bedstead is not in use, the frame B is turned up on its hinges with the springbottom C and mattress D, and the end pieces folded inward, thereby entirely closin g and hiding the bed. The key Gr is turned to hold the end pieces, as shown in Fig. 2, a-nd the-leg E is turned down.
