Application filed May 2, 1917. Serial No. 165,955.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MICHAEL J. OSSMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at lieadville, in the county of Lake and State of Colorado have invented a new and useful Hatchet, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention appertains to tools, and aims to provide a novel and improved tool of the hammer or hatchet type, embodying novel means for assembling the hatchet. or other blade with the head.
vVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device showing the hatchet blade applied to the hammer head, a portion of the handle being broken away.
Fig. 2 is a sectional detail taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an end View of the hatchet blade, a portion thereof being broken away.
The implement embodies a T-head 1 having its intermediate portion attached to one end of a suitable handle 2, one terminal of the head providing a hammer face 3, and the other terminal 4 being provided with a socket 5.
The hatchet or other suitable blade 6 is provided at one corner with an angular revides a portion 11 at right angles to the enlargement 8 and snugly fitting one side of the head 1, to brace the hatchet blade, and to provide a compact arrangement, the portion 11 extending beyond the shank 9.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A tool embodying a handle, a head carried by one end thereof, one terminal of the head having a socket, a blade having an angular recess for snugly receiving said terminal of the head, the blade having an enlargement at one wall of said recess abutting said terminal of the head and having another portion at right angles to said portion fitting against the inner side of the head and extending to a point near the handle, the first mentioned portion. having a shank extending perpendicularly therefrom to fit in said socket.
In testimony that I claim theforegoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
