To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS C. SHAW, a citizen of the United States, residing near Honea Path, in the county of Abbeville and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bulletin-Boards, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to builetinboards and similar devices, and more particularly to those of the type disclosed and covered by the claims of my Patent No. 1,206,148, dated November 28, 1916.
The object is to provide efi'ective paper or article clamping means that will maintain their proper relation and operative condition, this clamping means being simple.

Similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the embodiment illustrated, a case 16 is employed, which may be of any suitable form, that shown being supported by standards 17 that are mounted on suitable bases or feet 18. This case has a top wall 19, a bottom 20, a front transparent wall 21, and a rear wall 22 that can be opened, as will be readily understood. Mounted within the 2 case and spaced from both the front and rear walls 21 and 22 are vertical standards 28. Slidable on these standards are carrier collars 24 that may be held in any suitable position by set screws 25. These collars have secured to their front side channel pieces 26 forming spaced ears, to and between which are pivoted paper engaging clips 27, the pivots being illustrated at 28. These clips, as will be clear by reference to Fig. 3 are arranged to cooperate with the rear side of the transparent wall 21 to clamp thereagainst papers or other articles to be displayed, and in order to insure the proper engagement, leafsprings 29 secured to the collars within the channel pieces 26 bear against the clips 27. As illustrated in Fig. 3 the standards 23 in this particular form of construction are formed of channel bars.
It is believed .that the manner in which the device is used will be readily understood by reference to Figs. 1 and 3. The papers or other documents or articles to be displayed, are placed against the rear face of the transparent wall 21, and the clips are arranged so that they will properly bear against the same to hold said papers flat against the wall. It will be evident that these clips are individually movable, so that they can be arranged to suit different conditions of use.
In Figs. 4, 5, 6, aslightly difierent embodiment is illustrated. In this form of construction, the standards 23 are tubular, and are held in place by pins 30, which are located in the top and bottom walls 19 and 20, the pins projecting into the bores of the tubes. The carrier collars are designatedfli r", and have their openings corresponding in cross sectional form to the tubes 23*. The sait. ca collars are held in adjusted relation by set screws In this embodiment of the invention the collars have flattened front surfaces 26 and secured thereto are spring clips 27.
In the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 7, the standards, which are designated 23" are tubular in form and are held in place by pins 80". Slidable upon these standards are carrier collars 2%" held against movement by set screws 25", and the clamping devices comprise hearts 213" which are held against the transparent face 21 by springs 27" secured thereto and to the collars 24c". The heads preferably have stems 28 arranged within the springs, and terminate short of the collar 24-.
The structure illustrated in Fig. 8 is substantially the same as that shown in Fig. 7, with the exception that the collars Z-l carry bowed springs 26 secured at their centers to the collars and having flattened terminals 2" that cooperate with the transparent front wall 21.
In the structure illustrated in Fig. 9, the standards designated 23 as shown in 13, comprise T-bars. These standards have carrier collars 246 surrounding them and carry spring clips '26 that cooperate with the transparent front wall in the usual manner.
In the structure illustrated in Fig. 10, the standards 23 are square in cross section, as illustrated in Fig. 15., and the carrier collars Qi are split, forming'clam ping side arms or portions which are drawn together by connecting screws '25. These carrier collars are provided with clamping clips In the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 10, the standards 23 are square in cross section as will be clear by reference to Fig. 11, the carrier collars 2 being also square and hav ing set screws 25 for holding them. The paper clamping means 26 comprise bowed springs secured at their centers to the collars 22F and having their free ends coiipcrating with the glass or other transparent all.
In this embodiment illustrated in Figs. 16-19 inclusive, the casing includes a top 19 a bottom 20 a front transparent wall 21 and a rear wall 22 Vertical standards 23 are provided, on which. are carrier colmanner already described.
In this embodiment, the standards 23 are in sections, the upper ends being engaged in sockets 28 formed in a channel strip 29' that is secured to the inner side of the top 19 by screws 30 lVith this arrangement, it will be evident that the channel strips can be placed in any desired position. The ends of the standards engaged in the sockets 28 are held by set screws 31 The lower ends of the standards are in like manner engaged in a lower channel strip 32 secured to the bottom 20 said lower ends of the standards being held against accidental detachment by set screws 38 The adjacent ends of the sections of said standards 23 are engaged in sockets 34 formed in opposite sides of a hollow reinforcing bar 35 that extends horizontally across the casing between the two ends. This reinforcing bar is illustrated as square in cross section, though the cross sectional configuration is relatively unimportant. The bar has its ends suitably fastened to the end walls, as for example bycorner braces 36 From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction, operation and many advantages of the herein described invention will be apparent to those skilled in theart, without further description, and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In adevice of the character set forth, the combination with a structure including a top, abottom and a side Wall, of a hollow standard located alongside the side wall, means carried by the top and bottom and projecting into the standard .for holding the same, a carrier slidableupon the standard, and means mounted on the carrier and coacting with the wall for clamping thereagainst an article to be held.
2. In a device of the character set forth, the combination with a casing including a top, a bottom, ends, and a side wall, of an upper securing strip mounted on the top and a lower securing strip mounted on the bottom, each of the strips having a plurality of sockets, standards having their ends engaged in the sockets of the strips, collars surrounding and slidable on the standards,
and article engaging clips coacting with the side wall and carried by the collars.
3. In a device ofthe character set forth, the combination with a casing including a top, a bottom, ends, and a side Wall, of channel strips mounted on the top and bottom and including spaced sockets,.standards having their ends engaged in the sockets,
naatgese ineans securing the said ends in place, collars slidable on the standards, and article engaging clips coacting with the side Wall and carried by the collars.
4. In a device of the character set forth, the combination with a casing including a top, a bottom, ends, and a side wall, of a reinforcing bar extending between the ends and disposed in spaced relation to the top and bottom, spaced standards engaged with the top and bottom and with the reinforcing bar, collars slidable on the standards, and article engaging clips coacting with the side wall and carried by the collars.
5. In a device of the character set forth, the combination with a casing including a top, a bottom, ends, and a side wall, of
channel strips mounted on the top and bot tom and having spaced sockets, a reinforc ing bar extending across the casing and engaged with the ends in spaced relation to the top and bottom, said reinforcing bar having sockets, standards engaged in the sockets of the channel strips and reinforcing bar, means for securing said standards in place, collars slidable upon the standards, and clips coacting with the side wall and carried by the collars.
