Description
L WEILER EGG STAMPING DEVICE. APPLICATION FILED APR- 5' I915- Patented Aug. 28, 1917.
LOUIS WEILER, or BAXTER, IOWA.
EGG-STAMPING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 28, 1917.
Application filed April 5, 1916. Serial N 0. 89,085.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS WErLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baxter, in the county of Jasper and State of Iowa, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Egg-Stamping Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to hand stamps and more particularly to new and useful improvements in egg stamping devices.
An object of my invention is to provide an egg stamping device adapted to be grasped in the hand of the user and engaged with the surface of an egg whereby to place a designating date or letter upon the egg.
Another object of my invention is to provide an egg stamping device of the class described provided with means for engagement with three or more fingers of the hand of the user and having yieldable stamping means associated therewith for engagement with an egg, said stamping means being formed of rubber or similar flexible material whereby to engage an egg without danger of breaking the latter. The finger engaging portions are so arranged on the device as to permit lifting of the egg from the place at which the same is stamped and depositing the same in a box or package therefor.
A further object of my invention is to provide in an egg stamping device means for changing the date or designating letters associated with the stamping element.
Other objects'and advantages to be derived from the use of my improved egg stamping device will appear from the following detail description and the claims, taken with an inspection of the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a perspective view of an egg stamping device embodying the improvements of my invention,
Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the egg stamping device, the users hand being shown in dotted lines, and
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the stamping element showing the manner of stamping the designating letters upon the date or the like.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, wherein similar characters of reference designate like and corresponding parts throughout the various views, 1 designates the main body portion of my improved egg stamping device and 2 the finger or hand engaging member comprising a plurality of loops 3 fastened at their free ends to the body 1 by means of rivets lor the like.
The egg engaging or stamping portion of my invention is designated 5 and is formed preferably of rubber or some similar flexible material, whereby when applied to an egg in stamping relation thereto the same will conform to the shape of the egg and at the same time depositing the stamping fluid thereon in the shape of letters or similar characters.
I have shown one form of type carrying means for use in conjunction with my improved stamp, said type carrying means including a plurality of sections 6 having letters or similar indicia carried thereby forming the type. The sections 6 .are mounted in a groove 8 extending longitudinally of the portion 5. The groove 8 is best shown in Fig. l and is preferably dove-tailed in cross section of the section 6.
In order to cushion the egg stamping por tion 5 I provide a plurality of coil spring elements 9 connecting said portion 5 with the body 1. The springs 9 serve as shock absorbers and prevent fracturing the egg during a stamping operation. The coil spring elements 9 provides means for automatically conforming the flexible member 5 to the configuration of the egg upon the application of the same.
The device is shown in use in Fig. 2, and it will be seen that the three fingers of the users hand, shown in dotted lines, are engaged through the loop 3. The egg stamping portion 5 is now placed on the egg, the flexible portion conforming to the egg convex surface. The springs 9 serve to absorb any undue shock which otherwise might be imparted to the egg from the body 1. Continuing the impressions now on the egg the thumb and middle finger of the users hand may be engaged with the egg. In this manner the egg may be liftedand placed in a suitable container therefor and released, the operation being repeated for the next stamping of an egg.
From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it is thought that a clear and comprehensive understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of my invention may be had, and while I have shown and described my invention as embodying a specific structure, I desire that it be understood that I may make such changes on said structure as do not depart from the spirit and scope invention as claimed.
hat I claim as new and desireito by Letters-Patent is In an egg stamping device,
10 ing secured to the body portion-adjac Copies-101 this patent mayibe obtained'for a rectangular rigid body portion, a flexible egg engaging section CO-BXtQIlSlVG With theibodyaportioir coil springs, one end of the coil springs becorners thereof, the other end of the coil springs being secured to the flexible egg engaging section adjacent the corners thereof, .and finger engaging means rigidly secured to the body permitting the egg n1emher to be retained in the desired position while stamping.
Intestimonyzwh-ereof I afiix my hereto.
