' pocket Hash lights, and particularly to types adapted to be used in connection with scribing implements, such as marking pencils.

The principal object of the invention is to provide a selcontained light in a. form which is readily portable so that the same may be easily carried in the pocket of the user, having means combined whereby a marking implement may be attached.

These and other like objects are attained by the novel design, construction and combination of parts hereafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which :4-

Figure 1 is a side elevational view of an implement made in accordance with the invention.

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section taken through the center of the same, showing the light in position to illuminate the pencil point.

Fig. 3 is a similar sectional view, the light being attached to the opposite end of the implement.

Theimplement is comprised substantially of a cylindrical casing 10 having screw-threads 1l at one end, to which may be secured a cap 12 provided with internal threads suited to engage with those formed upon the barrel of the implement, and having a central socket 14 in which the lamp 15 terminating in a plug 16 may be securely fastened.

The opposite end of the casing 10 is adapted to slidably receive a. sleeve 18, the same having formed upon one of its sides a screw-threaded internal socket 20 similar to the socket 14 and receptive of the saine lamp, the socket extending into the barrel through an open space or slot 21.

The outer end of the sleeve 18 is preferably tapered,iforming a cone 22 terminating in a cylindrical extension 23, having a reduced cylindrical end 2l containing slots 25 which are adapted to normally expand and are contracted by the threaded sleeve 27, suited to screw-threads 28, raised upon the cylindrical portion 23, the whole forming in effect a clamp mounting for the pencil point 30 and permitting the same to be adjusted for length as may be desired.

Rigidly attached to the barrel 10, is a relicctor shield 32, the same acting as a guard for the lamp 15 when disposed in the socket 20, the reflector being so constructed as to divert or throw the rays of the light from the lamp directly toward the pencil point.

The barrel 1() is used as a casing for the battery 35 which` is neatly fitted to slide therein by the removal of the cap 12, one end of the battery being furnished with terminals 36 and 3T. the latter being adapted to make contact with the plug 16 formed at the end of the lamp socket 14, while the other terminal 36 is bent as indicated in Figs. 2 and forming a projecting portion 38 against which contact may be had by the resilient arm A39, attached to the knob 40, held normally outward through the opening 41, formed in the cone 22, by means of thc spring 42; when the knob 40 is depressed contact is made between the arm 39 and the terminal element 38. transmitting current through the spring 42 and completing thev circuit to the lamp.

The opposite end of the battery 35 is similarly provided with extending contacts 45 and 46. the former of which is closely adjacent to the spring contact 48, on which is secured the knob 49. pressed normally out through the opening 50 in the casing and adapted to form a circuit with the contact point 45 when the lamp is inserted at the rear end of the casing. the plug 16 at that time being engaged with the other contact member 46 of the battery.

From the foregoing, it will be obvious that when the lamp is inserted in the socket 20. below the reflector guard 32, that the light from the same will be diverted toward the point of the pencil upon pressing the knob +0. and that when used as an ordinary lamp, the lamp is inserted in the socket 14 and operated by pressure applied to the knob 49. Thus a double use of the batte is obtained.
