To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LOUIS F. LoBENHornR, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful.Improvements in Extension-Tables; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to extension tables, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a novel form of extension table, which is constructed so as to prevent sagging of the ends of the table, when in an extended position and under weight.

Another object of this invention is to pro vide an extension table as specified which is comparatively simple in construction, easy to operate for moving the table into or out of an extended position, and which includes means for limiting the extensible movement of the table sections;

With the foregoing and other objects in view this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.

In describing the invention in detail. reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters designate like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of the improved table, showing the legs in cross section,

Referring more particularly to the draw ings, 1 designates the rectangular supporting frame of the table, which is composed of side rails 2 and 3, and end rails 4 and 5, connected at their meeting ends in any suitable manner. Legs 4 are removably con nected to the corners of the frame 1, for supporting the same at the desired elevation.

longitudinal section through The legs 6 have their upper ends substantially rectangular in shape, and provided with right angled recesses 7 extending downwardly therein, from the upper ends of the legs. The recesses 7 are shaped and of suflieient length to receive the corners of the frame 1 therein The posts 8, which extend upwardly upon the inner corners of the legs 6 are positioned interiorly of the frame 1, and snugly seated in the corners of the frame, as is clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, for preventing independent movement of the legs with respect to the frame 1.

The side rails 2 and 3- have a bridge 10 secured thereto, and extending transversely across the frame, substantially equi-distant of the ends of the same. The bridge 10 is provided with rectangular openings 11 and 12 formed therein, adjacent to its lower edge, and spaced from each other, for receiving the slides 13, 14, 15 and 16 therein. The" slides 13 and 16, and the slides 14 and 15 are connected to cross bars or end pieces 17 and 18 respectively, which end pieces are provided for facial abutment with the outer surfaces of the end rails 4 and 5. The end pieces 17 and 18 are provided with recesses 20 formed centrally therein, for forming an insertion opening in which the fingers of a person may be inserted for facilitating the extending of the table top.

The slides 13, 14, 15 and 16 have the top boards 21 of the table secured thereto and they have their outer ends enlarged, as is shown at 22, to the upper surfaces of which enlarged ends the top boards 21 of the table are secured. The inner under corners of the enlarged sections 22 of the rails 13 and 16 are cut away, for receiving the ends of the slides 14 and 15 therein, and the outer under corners of the enlarged ends of the slides 14 and 15 are cut away for receiving the ends of the slides 13 and 16, the slides 14 and 15 being positioned upon the inner sides of the slides 13 and 16, as is clearly shown in Fig. 4 of the drawing.

The end rails 4 and 5 of the rectangular frame 1 of the table are provided with openings 25 formed therein, and communicating with the upper edges of the end rails, in which openings are slidably seated the respective slides.

The upper surfaces of the enlarged ends 22 of the slides 13, 14, 15 and 16 lie flush with the upper edges of the side and end rails of the frame 1, and the upper edge of the bridge 10, forming a support upon which removable leaves 26 of the table top rest.

The slides 14, and 16 have transversely extending lugs 27 formed upon their ends, which slides engage the sides of the bridge 10 for limiting the longitudinal sliding movement of the slides, and the distance of extension of the table top, causing the ends,

of the slides to remain extended through the bridge structure, when the table topis in its greatest extended position, thereby forming a firm brace for the extended ends of the table top-.

The inner ends of the enlarged sections 22 of the slides are spaced for abutment against the sides of the bridge 10, when the table is in a closedposition.

In reducing the invention to-practice,.cer' tain m1nor-features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may neces-- to the opposing inner faces of said side rails centrally thereof, said bridge rail provided wlth spaced rectangular openings ad -acent its lower longitudinal edge, said end ralls having spaced rectangular openings alining with the openings in the bridge rail, said openings opening out through the upper edge of said end rails, slides, said slides arranged in pairs and one slide of each pair slidably seated in the openings in the end rails, their inner ends passing through and beyond the openings of the bridge rail,- the ends of the slides located in the openings in the end rails are each provided with enlargements which have their inner junder sides cut away to receive the inner ends of the adjacent slides, a table top secured upon the upper sides of the enlargements of the slides, said bridge rail preventing upward movement of the ends of the slides thereunder when the slides are in an extended position.
