Description
DAMEL wHzlTLoCKrl Improvement in Dovetailing Machines.
No. 123,137. `Patemdmn.3o, 1872.
UNITED STATES DANIEL WHITLOCK, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN DCVETAILING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,137, dated January 30, 1872.
SPEGIEICATIQN.
I, DANIEL WHITLOCK, of Newark. in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain Improvements in Dovetailing-Machihes, of which thefollowing is a speciflcation:
My invention relates to constructing the bed upon Which the stiles and rails lay to be dovetailed with positive bevels requiring 11o tilting nor shifting fences, needing only adjustment up or down to admit of dii'erent thickness of the stun" for the sash.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is the machine in perspective. Fig. 2 is an end View of the sliding bed and of the adjustable shelves attached to its sides. Fig. 3 is one side of the bed With the parallel shelf attached on a larger scale than Fig. l. Fig. 4L is the other side of the bed with the inclined shelf in connection. A Fig. 5 is a stile, and Fig. 6 a meeting rail.
A is a pillar to which the slides B are secured. Any other suitable support for those slides can be used. G is the main bed sliding freely on B, having right and left bevels on the upper side of its bottom. D l 2 3 are cutters, technically turned Wabbling, because of their incline on their shafts E. Gris aparallel shelf adjustable up or down, attached to one side of the bed piece C. H is an inclined adjustable shelfl attached to the other side of C. Stiles are laid on H, and on being made to pass cutter D 2, first, with one side up and then the other have the female dovetail formed in the end. Meeting-rails laid iirst on one incline and then on the other in the bed C, have the male or pin dovetail formed on their ends by being' made to pass cutter D l. For the parallel cutting next the bevel-edge of the meetin g-rail, shelf G and cutter D 3 are provided.
Thus, Without any tilting or shifting of beds or fences, and Without change of inclines in the beds or rests, the needed process is completed by hand-shifting rails and stiles, and hand-sliding of the bed and shelves upon the rails B.
What I claim as my improvement is The bed C, shelves Gand H, constructed, combined, and arranged, as and for the purpose specified and shown.
