Description

FRANKIE M. COLSON, OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH.
SUPPOB'IER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 8, 1917.
Application led May 12, 1916. Serial No. 97,128.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, FRANKIE M. CoLsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salt Lake City, in the county of Salt Lake and State of Utah, have invented new and useful Improvements in Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to garment supporters, and comprehends a structure which may be independently used as a supporter, or maybe connected to the corset, for use as a pendent supporter therefrom.
rlhe improved structure includes a supporting member adapted to encircle the waist or to be secured to the corset, to which member are secured elastic pendent straps, the lower ends of the straps adjustably supporting a garter.
rIhe invention in the preferred form of details will be described in the following specification, reference being had particularly to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a view showing the supporter developed;
Fig. 2 is a side view showing the same applied to a corset.
The improved garment supporter includes a belt section l, constructed of webbing or the like, primarily adapted to encircle the waist of the user, the terminals of the belt sections being provided with fastening means 2 and 8, whereby they may be connected to secure them together.
Pendent from the belt section at appropriate points on each side portion thereof, are straps 4, the upper ends of the straps being secured by stitching or the like to the belt section, and the lower ends pass through horizontal loop portions 5 of connectors 6, the return lengths of the straps el being connected to the main lengths by adjustable buckle connectors 7. rlhe connectors 6 for two of the straps 4 are metallic pieces formed to present a horizontal section having the loop 5 and a vertical section having parallel elongated openings 8. @ne of the connectors 6, that used for the end strap, is formed with the horizontal loop or eye 5, but in place of the duplicate parallel openings S of the other connectors, is formed with a single opening 9 of greater width than either of the openings 8'.
Mounted in the connectors 6 is a garter section 10, of appropriate length, one terminal being secured through the loop openings 9, by stitching, while the opposing terminal is passed through 'an engaging member 11 and the terminals connected beyond the engaging member for adjustment by buckle connectors l2. The intermediate portion of the garter section is passed through the connectors 5, being extended reversely through the respective loop openings 8 of each of said connectors, as shown in Fig. l of the drawings.
ln use, the waist section is secured about the waist of the user, so that the straps 4 are pendent on one side, front and rear of the legs. The straps e are`of sulicient length to permit the garter sections to be passed about the legs, immediately below the knee, the adjustment of 'the various parts being such as to permit the necessary holding action, while yet avoiding undue restriction or freedom of movement.
lf desired, the belt section may be secured directly to the corset 13, as shown in Fig. 2, the remaining parts of the device and their use being identical with that described.
Furthermore, the waist section or garter .section may be constructed of elastic webbing or other material, as for example, an ordinary leather strap like section may be substituted for 'either'. lt is of course to be understood that the engaging member 11 is provided with a lip lil to engage in the elongated openings 9 of the terminal conneetor 6 when the garter section encircles the legs. rl`he various connectors are here shown as stamped from metal, although it is to be understood, that they may be constructed in any desired manner, and of any desired material without departing from the spirit of the present invention.
Having described my invention, what l desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1- A garment supporter including a waist section in the form of a strap, means for adjustably connecting the terminals of the strap, a plurality of garter sections, connector straps intermediate the garter sections and waist section, metal connectors carried by the connector straps and supporting the garter sections to permit independent longitudinal adjustment 0f the garter sections with respect to the connected member carried by the opposite end of the straps, an engaging member earrled by one garter section.
free end of each of the garter sections, one Initestimony whereof I aIX my Signature. tu'
of said metal connectors being formed with FRANKIE M. COLSON. an opening to receive one terminal of the Attest by Witnesses:
garter' section and of sufficient size to lpermit SAMUEL XV. STEWART,
the coupling therewith of the engaging. CATHERINE ODESSA Sii-mw.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for iive cents each, by addressing the Commis sinner of Patents, Washington, D. C.
