No. 121,652. Patented Dec.5,1871.
WW f5 L/m UNITED STATES,
PATENT QFFICE.
CHARLES H. MOULTON, OF DES MOINES, IOWA, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO CHARLES EAST, OF SAME PLACE; SAID HAST ASSIGNOR TO (JON- RAD BROTOHI, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN PICTURE-FRAME HANGERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,652, dated December 5, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OHARLEs H. MoULroN, of Des Moines, in the county of Polk and State of Iowa, have invented an Improved Doubly-Ad justable Picture-Frame Hanger, of which the following is a specification:
My invention is designed to provide a simple means of hanging picture-frames, looking-glasses, 850., in such a manner as to raise and lower the frame by shortening and lengthening the cord by slipping it back and forth through the eyes of the hooks. It consists in forming ahook with an eye and a tongue, as hereinafter fully set forth.
Figure l of my drawing is a full-size perspective view of my doubly-adjustable hanger.
A A is the plate. It is cut or stamped from sheet metal, and may be of various sizes and ornamental designs. B B is the part of one side turned up at a right angle, and perforated with a series of holes designed to receive the hook attached to the cord. The plate A A has holes in the ends through which screws or tacks are passed to hold the plates on the frames. The plates or hangers are placed on the back of the frame about the middle of the end pieces. 0 is a hook formed of metal, and has an eye at the upper end, and in the eye a flat tongue, similar to a shoe-buckle. D is the cord, which passes through the eye of the hook downward. \Vhen the cord is pulled upward the tongue in the eye will clamp and hold the cord. By this means the cord may be readilylengthened and shortened and the frame thereby raised and lowered without moving the hooks in the plates.
1 am aware that a plate similar to mine is in use; but I claim that the hook (I, used in connection with the plate A A, in addition to chang ing the angle of the frame, furnishes a simple, new, and useful means of raising and lowering the frame without changing the angle.
1 claim as my invention- The combined hook and buckle C, to operate in connection with the plate A A, substantially as described, and for the purposes specified.
CHARLES H. MOULTON.
