Application flled'Aprfl 27, 1916. Serial No. 98,994.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELBA G. FIREBAUGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kouts, in the county of Porter, State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bacon-Slicers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a ..full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in meat cutting devices, and particularly to devices for slicing bacon.
One object of the invention is to provide an extremely simple device of this character and one which can be manufactured and sold at an extremely low figure. Another objectis to provide a device of this character which is durable and eflicient in operation. 7
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a top plan view of my improved bacon slicer; Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Referring particularly to the ac oinpanying drawing, 10 represents a bloc of wood of suitable surface dimensions ind thickness and in. which there is form a longitudinally extending kerf 1 1, sai erf bein formed throughout the length f the block and approximately half way hrough the thickness thereof. Secured to the face of the block and on each side of he kerf are the staples 12. Disposed in t end of the kerf adjacent the staples is th pointed end of an. ordinary bread or meat knife 13,this endbeing formed with a transverse opening 14 to receive a bolt or pin 15 which is passed through the two staples 12. Thus the knife is pivotally mounted on the board and is adapted to be swung downwardly so 7 that its sharpened edge will pass into; the kerf. On one sideof the block. is secured a screw clamp 16, by means of which the 61 block-may be secured to the edge of a table. In the operation of the device, a piece of bacon is placed on the board in such position that it can be acted on by the knife when said knife is swung downwardly. 6! The bacon is advanced across thegkerf as the slices are cut from the piece.
What is claimed is:
In bacon slicer, the combination with a block of wood having anel ongated kerf in its'upper face and extending throughout its entire length, of staples engaged in the upper face of the block on opposite sidesof the k'erf and alined at right angles to the kerf, a pivot pin removably inserted through the staples across the kerf, and resting on the face. of the block, and a knife having an aperture near the point of the blade mounted in and extending beyond one end of the kerf, said pivot pin being removably inserted through the blade aperture whereby the knive maybe swun on the'pivot pin from and to the bottom 0 the kerf substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof, I afiix. my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
ELBA G. FIREBAUGH.
