' permit of its adjustment to accommodate shades of varying widths.
The inventlon embodies the desired features of simplicity in. construction, cheapness of manufacture, and resides in the combination and arrangement of parts set forth in the claims.
In the drawing forming part of this specication like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and in which Figure 1 is a fragmentary front elevation of a window casing showing the roller supported by the device forming the subject matter of my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the blank from which the attaching strip is formed. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the attaching strip and bracket showing the parts associated. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line H of Fig. 3.
Before entering into a detail description of what is herein shown I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction and arrangement of parts, and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed. There are to be two of the devices employed with each window in the usual manner, and a brief description of one will suffice for both.
The device forming the subject matter of my invention consists of an attaching member indicated generally at A and formed from a single strip of material '10 preferably metal. The strip is bent into the form shown in Fig. 3, wherein the terminals 11 are offset with respect to the body of the strip, and adapted to be secured to the window casing in any suitable manner. lVhen secured the body portion of the strip is spaced from the casing, while the body portion adjacent one of the terminals 11 is formed to provide a substantially U-shaped offset portion 12, the parallel limbs 13 of which are provided with alined openings 14 adapted to register with the threaded bore Of a nut 15. which a t r isiwsit o d between the parallel limbs 13. A screw bolt 16 is passed through the alined openings 1i,
and has threaded engagement with the bore of the nut 15, the forward end of the bolt having a swivel connection with the body portion of the shade bracket 17. The
bracket 17 is of ordinary construction, havc ing its base slidably embracing the body portion 10 of the attaching member at one side of the oifset portion 12. Manifestly by rotating the bolt in either one or the other directions, the bracket 17 is adjusted transversely of the window in the proper direciJlOIl, depending of course upon the direction in which the bolt is rotated, the bracket being guided in its adjustment by means of its association with the attaching member or strip 10. lVhen a device constructed in accordance with my invention is mounted upon a window, the bracket proper can be adjusted to accommodate shades of different widths, thereby obviating the necessity of removing the bracketwhen securing it to a different part of the window casing which must be done with the ordinary window shade bracket, and which mars the window casing every time such change is made. It might also be added that the component parts of the device may be constructed from any suitable material and vary in dimensions without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Projecting laterally from the opposite longitudinal edges of the strip 10 are bendable tongues 18, which depend from the cross piece 19 of the U-shaped offset portion 12 when the strip is formed in the manner illustrated in Fig. 3. These tongues are arranged at the opposite sides of the oifset portions and in engagement with the adjacent sides of the nut 15, whereby the latter is held immovable to permit the bolt to be easily and quickly adjusted for the purpose intended.
What is claimed is 1. A device of the class described comprising a strip of material adapted to be secured to the window casing and having a substantially U-shaped offset portion, a nut arranged between the limbs of said offset and connected with the adjacent end of the bolt to be adjusted thereby.
2. A device of the class described comprising a strip of material adapted to be secured to the window casing and having a substantially U-shaped offset portion, a nut arranged between the limbs of said offset portion, a screw bolt adjustable through said offset portion and having threaded engage- Gopies of this patent may be obtained for ment with the bore of said nut, a bracket slidably mounted upon the strip and connected with the adjacent end of the bolt to be adjusted thereby, and tongues depending from said olfset portion at the opposite sides of the nut to hold the latter immovably associated therewith.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature.
