This invention relates to on improvement in portable electric lamps of the so called flush light type, the object being to simplify means for insulating the lamp from one pole of the battery; and the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claim.
in carrying out my invention, I employ the usual casing 2 preferably tubular and formed from sheet metal adapted to contain the usual battery 3 which rests upon a s iiring 4 held in place by a cap 5 secured to the lower end of the case. The upper end oi? the case closed by a, block or lamp holder (5 of insulsting muteriul. This block is conceve'in its outer face and may be secured in the case by u pin-i or otherwise.
This block 6 may be formed from porcelain so as to have s reflecting); surface or the con cave outer face may be coated with nonconducting' material which will give a refleeting" surface. In the center of the block is an opening; to receive a, socket 8, this socket being formed in its inner edge with a contact flange 9. This socket is threaded to receive the usual incandescent lamp bulb 10 the inner end of which is in contact with the upper end of the battery 3.
Mountedin the case is the usual slide switch 11 operated by a push button 12 on the outside of the case and adapted to engage with the flange 9 so as to close the circuit through the lamp, one line of the lamp being in electrical contact with the socket and the other with the battery so that when the switch slide 11' engages with the flange the circuit is closed.
' Preferably and as shown the outer edge of the block or lamp holder 6 is formed with a bend 13 which projects beyond the outer edge of the case 2 and forms a finish for the outer end thereof. In this construction when the switch is moved away from the contact flange 9, the circuit cannot be accidentally closed by contact with metal objects.
I claim:
In a portable electric lamp, the combination with a cylindrical metal case, of a battery located therein, a lamp-holder of insulating material mounted in the outer end of the said case, the outer end of the said lamp-holder being concaved to provide a reflecting surface, and its outer edge being formed with a. bead to rest upon the adjacent edge of the case, a lamp-socket located in the center of the said lamp-holder. and provided at its inner end with a. circui closing; member, an incandescent-lamp bulb mounted. in the said socket, and a movable switch mounted in the case and adapted at its outer end to be moved into and out of contact with the said circuit-closing member for closing and breaking the circuit from the battery through the lamp.
