HERMAN ELSAS, @rE-'NETW YGRK, 1l?.

Specification of Letters Patent.
:ententes sept. sa, lele;
lle it known that l, HERMAN lnslis, a eitixen of the United States, and a resident ol: New York, in the county ot' New York and State ot' New York, have invented certain neu* :ind useful lmprovemexuts in Dispezsing-Cabinets, ot which the following is a sperilication.
'l`his invention relates to a dispensing rabinet tor liolding interfolded sheets oi per, as for instance, paper towels and the like.
The eahiuet is peculiarly designed for providing a. plurality of containers or conipartments each, so lar as its delivery is Concerned, being independent of the other, but so Jfar as inspection, filling, ete., are con ce1-ned it comprises a single unit.
lThe various features which go to eontribute toward the eliieiency of the device are described in detail in the proper place.
in the drawing accompanying; tnis appiication one practicable embodiment of the invention is illustrated. The. illustrative device isV a dispenser for toilet paper drawn to scale, in which drawiiug-v Figure l is a front elevation with part of the iront portion broken away; Fig. 2 is a rei-tical section taken on line 2 2 of Fig. l; l41 ig. 3 is' a horizontal section taken on line 3 3 of l.
The diilleulty .experienced in connection with dispensers of this Character, particularly those. for dispensing' towels is that the outwardly extending edge of the paper illustrated at a is rerpiently torn oil' or injured by improper manipulation as 1when the hands of the user are quite Wet.- it is .tor this reason very desirable to have a ond supply or container. Upon working under best Conditions, particularly where there is Considerable demand upon the dispenser, it is also desirable that a large supply controlled in its delivery be provided.
'fille-easing herein illustrated comprises a hai-lf plate 5 adapted to be secu-red to some convenient support, as for instance a iv; ll. ln the present illustration the easing made of sheet metal, and there is struru up' 'from this baci; plate a suitable surrounding llange for the top, bottom and sides. The illustrative example comprises a pliurality of containers, two being' shown, each of which a substantial duplication of the other, and for this reason an explanation of one will serve for both. There is suitahly secured its normal position.
,toward the trout plates 8 and 6.
to the rack plate a'plate 6 which. constitutes the bottoni ot' the upper individual conf tainer and the front plate for the lower por-- 69 tion thereof. This front plate 'Gf in the present ease is shown with an out-'turned guildeV 'i'. The upper portion of the front of the,
container is formed of a plate 8 also havingI an out-turned guide 9, the plate being pivoted at Q0 and adapted to 'assume by gravity I The. front 21 of the easing comprises a single unit struck from' sheet metal in the illustrative example and provided with a. pair of openings 10, il), each adapted to register with the respective out-turned guides 7 and 9, and forming the delivery outlet of the respective container. This front portion is suitably connected t0 the haelt portion, asfor instance, by hinges ll, ll and has seine suitable fastening as for instance loyrl: l2. The front 21 is effective to hold the swinging plates 8 in their normal or closed positions. The stacks oi' in'terfolded sheets are illustrated at 13, 13, and in the present example' arev disposed with the sheets in vertical position. rlhe stack of sheets of paper or the like are urged In the present illustration a. pair of springs 1li are provided, these being leaf springs secured `to the back plate 5 and crossing ina-y have their front ends engage the -back of the stack, of sheets.r and apply pressure adjacent-the respective ends thereof. Certain classes ofarticles iu the stack have sullioient stability to receive through 'the rearmost sheet the pressure of the springs and distribute this eriuahly 'throughout the stack. Other sheets, however, require the 'intel-position of a rigid follower as ln certain Classes ot stacked sheets, it is desirable to maintain the follower in a plane parallel with the plane of the trontplates. rl`his is acor'nnplished by suitable links 16, 17 secured to the back plate and to the follower in some suitable manner. lly thisY means unevenness throughout the stack oiNV inequality oil the springs i'lll be compensated tor.
The operation oi' the device is as follows; The lock l2 will first be released when it is desired to replenish the dispenser', and the trent part 21 turned on the hinges ll. This will enahle'the attendant to remove a partially used stach if necessary by drawing it out :ind .vinging thefiiivotedI plate 8 outwardly when a new stack may be inea- Y sei'ted by pressing hack the springs and the lolloii'ei'. Beth containers are capable of being thus inspected and replenished by a single ease opening. The closing of the from plaie 2]. weni'ely holdsy in pesilion both of the Swinging plateS ll and also prevenie removal ol' he sheel'is except in the intended manner according lo lheiil system 'of inei'loldingr.
Uf eUni-se it will be obvious lhat lhe -di'av'- ings are illustrative of one pi'aeieable enihodinienl of he invenlion and changes may be ninde as occasion demands.
