This application is. a continuation-in-part of my application Ser. No. 81,737 Dispensing devices filed May 25, 1936, now abandoned.

The invention relates to devices for holding and distributing rolls or packages of sheet paper, such as toilet paper, or other articles adapted to be taken out one at a time.

With devices of this kind the person who has to attend to the insertion of a new roll or the like can mostly not be present just when the last leaf I .or article has been taken out.

It is therefore often usual to deposit in a handy position a spare roll or package. The bringing into use of the spare roll or package' often takes place without inserting it into the holder, and consequently the new roll or package often lies about on the floor, is soiled and much material is wasted. Finally, the removal of paper in single sheet from a roll or package not put into the holder is inconvenient.

These disadvantages are overcome according to the invention by providing at the same place two holders, each for one roll or package, in such a manner that after the depletion of the one holder the other holder is brought into use. Suitably the two holders are combined into one device in such a manner that at one time the one holder only is accessible or easily accessible.

The invention relates furthermore tothe arrangement of devices of theindicated type so as to further facilitate the refilling. This is outstandingly achieved according to the invention by arranging the new device on a wall or door and by providing an opening through which the device is accessible from the outside.

Further objects, features and the details of the invention will be more clearly understood from the embodiments illustrated in the attached draw- .ings and described in the following.

- In the embodiment of the invention according to Figure 1, two paper rolls ll, I2 are supported from a base plate or support it by means of usual bows l3, I4 or the like. On a rod 15 or the like supported by the base plate 10 a covering shield I6 is reciprocably movable. The shield in the position shown in the drawing prevents withdrawal from the rolll2 and protects it against soiling.

After depletion of the roll H the shield I6 .is moved on the rod l5 so that it frees the roll l2 for the withdrawal of paper. Before exhausting the roll [2 a new roll is put into the holding yoke l3 to replace the roll I l and the new roll is taken into use after the depletion of the roll l2.

According to Figures 2 and 3, two rolls 30, 3 are arranged the one above the other on holding means 32 and 33 respectively which latter are mounted on a base plate or support 34. The plate 34, in turn, is pivotally connected with a base plate 36 for instance by a pivot 35-so that it is rotatable with respect to the latter around an axis perpendicular to the plane of both plates. A box 31 having two open faces, at the bottom and in the rear, is journaled to thebase plate 38 by a hinge 38. In the illustrated position the box 31 covers the upper r0113! and lies with its side walls against the side margins of the plate 34 in such a manner that the latter is prevented from being rotated. f

If, after exhausting the roll 30, the roll 3| is to be brought into use, the box 31 is swung upwardly and the plate 34 rotated sothat the roll 3| is now in the lower position; the box 31 is then lowered again and, thereby, the plate 34 secured in its new position' As before, the empty holder 32 now under the box 31, may be provided with a new roll at a convenient time.

In the embodiment illustrated in Figures 4 to 7 two rolls 4|, 42 are situated parallel to each other in a, preferably casing-like, body or support 40. The body 40, in turn, is mounted rotatably around a horizontal axis 44 extending parallel to the axis of the rolls in the side parts of the body 43. The body 43 is journaled to a base46by hinges 45 the axis of which is parallel to the axis 44. If now the upper roll, covered by the walls of the bodies 40, 43 is to be taken into use, then by gripping into the hand opening 41 the body together with the body 43 i swung forwardly around the hinges 45 and thereupon the roll-body 40 together with the rolls 4|, 42 is rotated around the axis 44 until the roll 42 is in the lower position. After releasing, the parts rest anew against the base 46.

By the box-like formation of the roll support 40 and the hanging body 43 the upper roll is always completely covered and the lower roll projects only from the body 40 to the extent necessary for the withdrawal of the paper.

The base 46 is in the form of a shallow casing having a bottom Wall 48, side walls 49 and a marginal flange 50 all around. The upper part of the bottom wall 48 is formed by a lid or door which is hinged at 52 along its lower margin to the stationary part of the wall 48. A look 53 serves for holding the upper part of the, door 5| in engagement with the upper wall 49 of the base.

The base 46 is placed in an opening of equal size in the door 54 of the toilet 55 and is held in place by screws 56 extending through the aforesaid flanges 50.

If one of the two rolls should have been depleted and the other one should be in the lowermost position, the upper holder can easily be provided with a spare roll from the outside of the toilet 55, even if it should be occupied, by simply opening the lid 5| by means of a key to be placed from the outside in the lock 53. This does not mean any disturbance of the occupant of the toilet. Such arrangement considerably facilitates the refilling of paper in such places as the toilets of railway terminals and the like.

The embodiment illustrated in Figure 8 is based on a similar principle as the embodiment illustrated in the preceding figures. In Figure 8 the pivots of rotation 44' of the body 40' supporting rolls-'4! and 42' engage inclined slot guides 48' of arms or casing walls 43 fixed to the base plate 46'. The inclined slots may of course be provided in the roll body and the pivots on the arms of the base plate. The base plate 46' is of the type which is simply secured to the wall of a room but not, as in the preceding embodiment, in or behind an opening thereof. Also this embodiment is based on the principle that the roll body and its axis of rotation can be moving away from the base plate thereby allowing the rotation of the body. l

The invention is not restricted to the illustrated embodiments but is liable of manyiurther modifications and adaptations. In particular, the invention is not limited to any specific manner for holding or guiding the rolls, leaf paper packages or the like or any specific means for encasing the same. The invention is furthermore not limited to any specific form of stocks of articles, as for instance rolls or leaf paper packages. In the appended claims expressions such as holding means are intended to cover any possible manner for holding or guiding the paper stocks, and the expression stock of articles is intended to comprise every possible form of rolls, packages, piles or the like of paper or in some cases of other articles adapted to be distributed from a holding device of the disclosed kind.

The appended claims are intended to cover all such modifications and adaptations of the prinoiple of the invention.

What I claim is:

1. In a, dispensing device for domestic sheet paper, such as toilet paper, a wall fixture or base, a body on which holding means to support two stocks of the same paper are mounted adjacent each other and relatively close to said base, means for rotatably connecting the body to the base so that it may be swung into two terminal positions around an axis disposed vertically to said wall fixture and to said body, a covering member mounted on said wall fixture and covering in the one position of said body at least partly the one paper stock and in the other position the other paper stock.

2. In a dispensing device for domestic sheet paper such as toilet paper, a base, a body provided with holding means for two paper stocks,

said means being adapted to allow the substitution of a used-up paper stock by a spare paper stock, means for connecting said body to said base comprising intermediate members connected with the base swingably around a horizontal axis substantially parallel to the plane of the base, and means for connecting said body to said members rotatably around a second horizontal axis likewise substantially parallel to the plane of the base but spaced from the first-named axis.

3. In a dispensing device for domestic sheet paper such as toilet paper, a base, a body provided with holding means for two paper stocks, said paper stocks and their respective holding means being arranged normally the one above the other, said means being adapted to allow the substitution for a used-up paper stock of a spare paper stock, means for connecting said body to said base comprising intermediate members connected with the base swingably around a substantially horizontal axis parallel to the plane of the base, and means for connecting said body to said members rotatably around a second substantially horizontal axis parallel to the plane of the base spaced from the first-named axis, said intermediate members forming part of a casing covering the upper paper stock.

4. In a dispensing device for domestic sheet paper such as toilet paper, a base, a body provided with holding means for two paper stocks, said means being adapted to allow the substitu tion of a used-up paper stock by a spare paper stock, connecting means between said base and said body including a pivot connection for said body, the axis of said pivot connection being arranged horizontally and substantially parallel to said base, said connecting means being adapted for reciprocal movement of said body away from and toward said base, said body being rotatable into two terminal positions around the axis of said pivotal connection, and covering means covering at least partly in one of said positions the one paper stock and in the other position the other paper stock.

5. In a dispensing device, holding means for two stocks of articles to be dispensed, a covering member of a size sufficient only to cover at least partly the access to the one stock of articles, means for fastening said holding means and said covering member to a support movably relative to each other into two different positions, the arrangement being such that said covering member covers in the one position at least partly the access to either one of said stocks of articles only while the access to the other stock of articles is unimpeded, said covering member being fastened near one of its edges to said support swingably around a horizontal axis substantially parallel to the plane of said support as to facilitate the change of the relative position of said holding means and said covering member.

6, In a dispensing device, a body provided with holding means for only two stocks of articles to be dispensed. Said means being adapted to allow the substitution of a used-up stock by a spare stock, said body together with its holding means being connected with a stationary substantially vertical member rotatably around a substantially horizontal axis, said body being adapted to be moved in either one of only two terminal positions, and the arrangement being such that in the one positionthe holding means for the one stock is substantially directly below the other and thereby more easily accessible, whereas in the other position, the other stock becomes the lower one and thereby more easily accessible and the holding means for the first stock may at some convenient time be filled, with a new spare stock.

7. In a dispensing device for articles such as domestic paper sheets, a supporting back or support, a body provided with holding means for two stocks of such articles, said means being adapted to allow the substitution of a used-up stock by a spare stock, means for connecting said bod; to said supporting back comprising an intermediate member connected with said back swingably around an axis substantially parallel to the general plane of said back, and means for connectin said body to said member rotatably around a second axis, the arrangement being such that said first axis permits said intermediate member to be swung together with said body away from said back when said body is rotated about said second axis.

8. In a dispensing device for articles such as domestic paper sheets, a supporting back or support, a body provided with holding means for two stocks of such articles, said means being adapted to allow the substitution of a used-up stock by a spare stock, means for connecting said body to said supporting back comprising an intermediate member connected with the back swingably around an axis substantially parallel to the general plane of the back, and means for conaround a second axis likewise substantially parallel to the plane of said back and to said first named axis but spaced from the latter, the arrangement being such that said first axis pergether with said body away from said back when said body is rotated about said second axis.

9. In a dispensing device for articles such as domestic paper sheets, a supportin back or support, a body provided with holding means for two stocks of said articles, said means being adapted to allow the substitution of a used-up stock by a spare stock, means for connecting said body to said back comprising an intermediate member connected with the base swingably around an axis substantially parallel to the general plane of the back, and means for connecting said body to said member rotatably around a second axis substantially parallel to the general plane of the back and to said first-named axis but spaced from the latter, parts of said intermediate member forming means for covering at least partly the access to the one stock of articles in one relative position of said back or support and said body.

10. In. a dispensing device for articles such as sheets of domestic paper, a base. a body provided with holding means for two stocks of articles, said means being adapted to allow the substitution of used-up stock by a spare stock, connecting means M nuts said intermediate member to be swung tobetween said base and said body including a pivot connection for said body, the axis" of said pivot connection being arranged substantially parallel to said base, said connecting means being adapted for reciprocal movement of at least part of said body away from and toward said base, said body being rotatable into two terminal positions around the axis of said pivotal connection, and covering means covering at least partly in one of said positions the one paper stock and in the other position the other paper stock.

11. In a dispensing device for roll paper such as toilet paper, a wall fixture, means for holding two paper rolls, a cover for one of said paper f rolls, said cover and said holding means being connected to said base so that their relative position may be changed from one where the holding means for the one roll only is easily accessible to a position where the access to the other roll is easily accessible, said cover comprising portions covering at least the front and parts of the sides of the one roll in one position and of the other roll in the other position.

12. In a dispensing device for roll paper such as toilet paper, a wall fixture, means for holding two paper rolls, a cover for one of said paper rolls, said cover and said holding means being connected to said base so that their relative position may be changed from one where the holding means for the one roll only is easily accessible to a position where the access to the other roll is easily accessible, said cover comprising portions covering at least parts of the front, of the vertical sides and of a generally horizontal side of the one roll in the one position and of the other roll infthe other position;

In a dispensing device for roll paper such as toilet paper, a wall fixture, means for holding two paper rolls, a cover for one of said paper rolls, said cover and said holding means being connected to said base so that their relative position may be changed from one where the holding means for the one roll only is easily accessible to a position where the access to the holding meeting said body to said member rotatably means for the other roll is easily accessible, said cover comprising portions covering at least parts of the front and of one of the ends of the one roll in the one position and of the other roll in the other position of said cover and said holding means.

14. In a dispensing device according to claim 10, a hinge connection between said covering member and said wall fixture or base, said hinge connection being arranged outside of the path of said body, said covering memberbeing provided with portions to cover at least partly the outer side, the lateral sides and the side adjacent said hinge of the respective paper stock.

15. In a dispensing device for domestic sheet paper in roll form such as toilet paper, a back or support, holding means for two paper rolls only, means adapted to hold side by side with their axes in about the same horizontal plane two paper rolls, said holding means being adapted to allow the substitution of a used-up paper roll by a spare roll, a covering member of a size sufiicient to cover at least a part of the front and the lower side of one roll only, mean for connecting said covering member to said back or support slidably in a direction substantially parallel to the axes of said rolls so that by merely sliding the covering member from one-position to another the access to one paper roll becomes impeded and the other paper roll becomes freely accessible.

16. In a dispensing device for articlesv such as' sheets of. domestic paper, a base, a body provided with holding means for two stocks'of articles, said means being adapted to allow the substituti'on of used-up stock by a spare stock, connecting means between said base and said body, said connecting means being adapted for reciprocal movement of said body away from and toward said base andior rotative movement of said body about an axis substantially parallel to said base into either one of two terminal positions, said body being adapted to hold the two stocks of articles ineither terminal position at about the same distance from the general plane of said base, said body comprising covering means arranged on the one side of each holding means andsubstantially parallel to the general plane of said base, said means being arranged on different side of the twoholding means so that they cover at least partly in one of said positions the access to theone paper stock and in the other position the access to the other paper stock.

17. In a device for holding at least two, stocks of paper so that always one of the two stocks is readyfor withdrawal of paper from one side of the: device whereas the access to the other stock is impeded, a support for the device, an opening in said support permitting refilling of a depleted paper stock from the opposite side of the device.

18. In a device for dispensing paper; a base; means for holding two stocks of paper; means for impeding access to one of the two stocks of paper while permitting withdrawal of paper from the other stock from one side of the device; an opening in said base permitting refilling of a de-- pleted paper stock throughsaid opening from the other side of the device; and a removable lid for said opening.

19. In a toilet having an outer wall such as a door" arranged near the toilet bowl, a paper dispenser attached to said Wall and accessible for the withdrawalof paper from the interior of the toilet, an opening in back of said dispenser permitting refilling from the outside of the toilet, and means preventing at least substantially viewing throughsaid opening into the interior of the toilet.

In a dispensing device for roll paper such as toilet paper, a supporting back or support, two holding means for two rolls associated with said back or support, one of said holding means being arranged above the other, the upper holding means being provided with an enclosure impeding the access to a roll supported thereby whereas a roll on the lower holder is accessible for the withdrawal of the paper, means adapted to permit the moving of a spare roll supported by the upper holding means to the lower part of the device so that it becomes accessible and to permit: removal of the holding means for the lower roll; to the upper part of the device so that it may be provided with a new spare roll, said holding means being arranged and adapted for keeping therolls supported by them at all times positively out of. contact with each other.

21. In a dispensing device for roll paper such as toilet paper: a supporting structure for holding at least two rolls above one another and comprising an enclosure impeding the access to all but the lowermost roll so that only the latter is accessible for the withdrawal of paper, holding means for said rolls adapted to permit the removal of the one roll from and the moving of the roll thereabove to the lowermost position, said means being arranged and adapted for positively keeping the roll in the lowermost position permanently and at all times out of contact with the next roll thereabove so as not to impede the rotation of the roll in the lowermost position and the withdrawal of paper therefrom.

22. In a device according to claim 17, the opening being arranged in the region oi the stock the access to which is impeded.

23. In a dispensing device according to claim 6 having an opening in said member in back of the holding means for the upper stock so as. to permit refilling of a depleted paper stock from the opposite side of the device.

24. In a room such as a toilet having a partition separating it from the outside, a dispensing device adapted for holding at least two stocks of paper being attached to said partition and comprising an enclosure impeding the access from the inside of the room to all but one paper stock so that the latter only is accessible for the withdrawal of paper, said device permitting the change of the paper stocks relative to said enclosure so that another stock becomes accessible, an opening in said partition behind and shielded by said enclosure permit-ting refilling of the device from the outside of the room.

25. In a dispensing device according to claim 3 having an opening in said base in back of.the place for the upper paper stock so as to permit refilling of the latter from the opposite side of the device.

26. In a dispensing device according to claim 10, an opening in said base in back of said covering means so as to permit refilling of a depleted paper stock from the opposite side of the device.
