UNITED STATE-s EDWARD V. B. HOES, OF GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOY-PROJECTORS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,358, dated September 26, 1871.
To all whom it 'may concern:
Be it known thatI, EDWARD V. B. Hons, of Green Bay, in the county of Brown and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and Improved Toy-Projector, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure .l represents a front view of my improved toy-proj ector. verse section of the sane on the line c c, Fig. l.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a new toy for projecting or shooting` peas, small balls, and other things in a harmless manner; and consists in the arrangement on a fork-handle of a pivoted rod and elastic band in such manner that the band will serve to violently carry the rod between the arms of the fork whenever the rod has been swung to one side.
A in the drawing represents a fork made of wood, metal, or other material. B is a rod piv oted between the prongs of the fork where they converge by a pin, a. C is a rubber or other elastic strap, fastened with its end to the upper Fig. 2 is a vertical transparts of the prongs and drawn through a hole in the rod B.
When the instrument is to be used the pea or other thing to be projected is, with one inger of the right hand, or with the thumb and nger, held against the upper end of the rod, the left hand holding the handle d of the fork. The rod B is then swung to one side, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2; thereby the spring Gis stretched. The rod is now let go and is rapidly carried for ward by the contracting-spring to resume its neutral position between the arms of the fork. This motion of the rod causes the pea or thing held against it to be projected forward with considerable but not dangerous vehemence in a direction to be controlled by the practice of the operator. The upper end b of the rod B may be enlarged, as shown, to afford a convenient rest for the thing to be propelled.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Iatent- In combination with a fork, A, the rod B pivoted between its prongs, and the rubber G passthrough a hole in said rod, as and for the purpose specified.
Witnesses: EDWARD V. B. HOES.
