Colvin-CLEANER.
Application filed May 9, 1914. Serial N o. 831,533.
To all 'whom it may concern.'
Be it knownthat we, THOMAS C. BAM- rrrLD and GEORGE RECHTER, (1) av subject of the King of Great Britain andv (2) citizen of the United States, residing yat Angel Island, in the county of Marin and 4State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Comb-Cleaners; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains tov make and use the same.
This invention relates to cleaners for toilet combs, and one of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a cleaner for combs comprising a bar having" a series of angular projections to extend between the teeth of the comb and movable from its upper position at the base of the teeth to av point near the outer ends of the teeth for stripping or removing hairs, dandruff and other foreign matter which collects between the teeth to thus render the comb sanitary and cleanly.
Another object of the invention is to improve and simplify the construction of comb cleaners and to render them more eiiicient in operation and less expensive to manufacture.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a comb and cleaner made in accordance with this invention, showing the cleaner in full lines, held up near the bases of the teeth, and in dotted lines showing the position for cleaning the teeth, Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of one end of the cleaner, Fig. 5 is a detail view showing the construction of the guide member for one end of the cleaner, and, Fig. 6 is a detail sectional View showing the hinged clasp for holding the cleaner in its uppermost position when not required for use.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the back of a comb and 2 are the teeth, which may be all of the coarse variety, j
all of the ne, or part fine and part coarse. The comb 1 is provided at its opposite ends with enlarged terminal teeth 3, and near the ends of said teeth are outwardly projecting stubs 4, which serve as stops for the cleaner bar when moved toward the end of the teeth when @leerling the. .C1-Omb- 'T he cleanerbw S. rrevided with. angular proiectons 6,` which' j@steriel betwen" th teethV 2 of the comb for stripping the hair and other. Collections.. therefrom.. At the 0P- posite 4ends of the bari and extending upwardly therefrom are arms 7 and projecting at right angles to said extension are the guide members or loops S, having rectangular openings 9 therem, to receive the end teeth 3. The arms 7 are` wider than the bar 5 to provide cleaning projections 6a at the ends of the bar, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4 of the drawings. To receive the arms 7 when the cleaner bar 5 is in uppermost position, the back 1 is provided with recesses 7a which are alined with the slotsbetween'the fr 5 may be moved down toward the ends of the Y teeth 22until the guide members 8 come into contact with the stop pins 4. The hair and other Vforeign matter may be then wiped off the cleaner bar, after which the cleaner bar may be returned toits normal uppermost position, thus leaving the comb in a thoroughly sanitary condition. Y
The invention is simple in construction, can be manufactured at low cost, is reliable and eflicient for its purpose, and is in line with progressive sanitation.
Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the inventionas defined in the appended claims.
Vhat is claimed is l. In combination, a comb having its back provided with recesses alined with the slotsV between the end and next adjacent teeth, a bar, arms extending upwardly from the ends of the bar, said arms being wider than the bar to provide cleaning projections extending inwardly from the inner side of the bar at the ends thereof, said projections being tions extending from, the inner side of the j located in said slots, other cleaning projecbar and located in the slots between the other teeth, loops projecting outwardly and laterally from the upper ends of the armsl` said recesses in the back receiving the arms.
when the bar is in its uppermost position,
releasable means for securing' the bar in this position, and means for limiting theclean ing movement of the bar uponfthe teeth.
j provide cleaningprojections extending in Wardly from the inner side ofthe bar at the Copies of this patent may be obtained for tive cents each, by addressing the "Commissioner `of PatentY endsthereof, other cleaning projections eX- tending inwardly fromthe inner side offvthe` bar, `and located between saidrst named r projections, and loops .projecting `outwardly and laterally from the upper endsl of the n arms.
In testimony whereof-fy .We afiiX` our `signa-A tures 1n presence' of two Witnesses.
