Description
UNITED v JAMES M. CORBIN, OF LIBERTY, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN STVE-LEGS.
To all/whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES M. GoRBrN, of Liberty, in the county of Clay and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvemen-t in Stove-Leg Fastening and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eX- act description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this speciiication, in which- Figure l is a view of the under side of a stoveleg and portion of a stove bottom illustrating my improvement. Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view of the saine.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention consists in improving the construction of stove-legs to enable them to be held more firmly, as hereinafter fully described and subsequently pointed out in the claim.
A represents the bottom plate ofthe stove, upon which are cast flan ges B, forming a tapering dovetailed groove to receive the tapering dovetailed base-plate, C, of the stove-leg D. E isa spring attached at its middle point to the under side of the base-plate C, and which should be of such a length a s to proj ect beyond the outer sides ofthe flanges B. Upon the under edges of the iianges B are formed stops F, which may be formed by casting notches in or projections upon the said lower edges. WV ith this fastening' the leg can be inserted in place in the same way and with the same facility as if the spring I] were not attached to it, the said spring dropping into the stop F as the leg comes into place.
To detach the leg the ends of the spring E are raised above the stops F, when the leg can be slipped out.
This fastening will prevent the leg from dropping out accidentally when the stove is being moved, or from being knocked out when the stove is standing in its place.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A stove-leg, having dovetailed base-plate C, with spring E and stops F, constructed, arranged, and applied as and for the purpose speciiied.
JAMES M. CORBIN. Witnesses B. B. GoRBiN, GEO. B. BRYANT.
