To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES M. TRIGGS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Huntington, in the county of Huntington and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Tall Garbage-Receptacle, of which the following is a specification.

It is the object of my invention to provide a garbage receptacle, especially one built in the wall of a house so as to be accessible from both the inside and outside, in which proper sanitary conditions are maintained by disinfectants, and in which such disinfectants are discharged into the receptacle by the opening of the receptacle, as when putting garbage thereinto. ing this object I provide a disinfectant holder above the garbage holder and connect such disinfectant holder with the door to the arbage receptacle, so that upon opening sucn door the disinfectant holder is operatedto discharge disinfectants onto the garbage in the garbage holder.

The accompanying drawing illustrates my invention.

In this drawing, Figure 1 is a sectional view through the wall of a house with my garbage receptacle mounted therein, some of the parts of the garbage receptacle being broken away in order better to show the construction, and the door of the receptacle being closed; Fig. 2 is a somewhat similar view showing the receptacle door open; and Fig. 3 is a partial elevation of the disinfectant holder, with some parts broken away.

The house wall 10, shown with inside plastering 11 and outside clapboarding 12, is provided with a wooden frame 13 of proper size to receive the garbage receptacle. This garbage receptacle has two frame members 14. and 15, which are flanged to fit against the wooden frame 13 and have telescoping parts 16 and 17 respectively, conveniently of sheet metal riveted to the members l-i and 15, for permitting the same parts to be used for walls of different thicknesses. The outside frame member 15 is provided with a hinged door 18 which can be opened to permit the garbage holder or can 19 to be put in place or removed from the outside, said garbage holder conveniently being an ordinary cylindrical garbage can provided with a bail 20. The members 11 and 15 may be provided with bulging In accomplishportions 21 and 22 for permitting a can of greater diameter than the thickness of the wall to be received.

The inside frame member 14: is provided with a swinging door 23 which when opened forms a chute by which the garbage thrown in is conducted to the garbage can 19, as is clear from Fig. 2. This door conveniently has an operating handle 24, and a latch 25 by which it can be held in closed position, the oint of'the door with the frame member 14: preferably being substantially air tight when the door is closed. The door 23 is supported on pivot pins 26, fitting over such pins by means of slots 27 which permit the door to be lifted out when necessary.

A pair of arms 30 depend from the under side of the top of the inner one of the two telescoping parts 16 and 17 here 17, and in each of these arms is pivotally mounted a disk 31 provided with a substantially semicircular flange 32 extending toward the other disk to form with the other flange 32 a pocket for a can 33 for containing the de sired disinfectant. In order to hold the can 33 in place in this pocket, one or both of its ends is provided *ith a depression ea for receiving a spring-pressed button 35 carried by the disk 31, as illustrated in Fig. 3, the button or buttons 35 being pushed back when a can 33 is being put in place or removed. The can 33 is provided with a series of holes 36 for allowing the disinfectant to be discharged from the can when the can is moved to proper position. The disks 31 are rigid with their pivot pins 37 upon one or each of which is fixed an arm 38 connected by a link 39 to the door 23, the pivot screw 10 which connects the link to the door proj ecting sidewise from the door so that it will engage and be stopped by the inner face 41 of the frame member 1-1 near the door open ing. Thus when the door 23 is opened or closed the disinfectant can 33 is rotated, as is clear from Figs. 1 and 2, the holes 36 being so located that they come to the lowest position when the door 23 is open, and the pins 40 striking the face 41 as this open position is reached and jarring the can 33 to shake out the disinfectant therefrom. When the door is closed the can 33 is returned to such a position that the disinfectant cannot fall out through the holes 36, as illustrated in Fig. 1.

I claim as my invention: 1. In combination, a garbage receptacle provided with a door, a. movable disinfectant holder supported, within said garbage receptacle separately fro-m the door,

In combination, a garbage receptacle provided with a swinging door, a pivoted disinfectant holder supported in said receptacle separately from the door, said disinfectant holder being provided with an opening through which the disinfectant can be discharged, and connections between said disinfectant holder and said door whereby the swinging of the door moves the disinfectant holder to discharge disinfectant through such opening, and means for limbe discharged, and connections between said disinfectant holder and said door whereby the swinging of the door moves the disinfectant holder to discharge disinfectant through such opening.

4. In combination, a garbage receptacle,

6 In combination, a garbage receptacle comprising a frame having two telescoping members for fitting into the wall of the house, a garbage holder for location in said receptacle, one of said membersbeing provided with a door for admitting and removing said garbage holder and the other of said members being provided with a door for admitting garbage to said garbage holder, said last-named door being in the form of a chute fordi-recting the garbage to said garbage holder, and a disinfectant holder connected with said last-named door to be operated thereby. to discharge disinfectant into said garbage holder upon the operation of said door. I

7.
