usual construction are interposed between the ends of the seat 1 and the seat supporting frame A. The upper halves, of "the elliptic springs are secured to the'seat by suitable fastening members such as the bolts 7, while the lower halves thereof are secured tofthe en'd cross bars 4- of the seat supporting with extension plates 15 having a sliding engagement with vertical'guidestrips 10 which are fit'tedagainst the inner facesof the sides of the wagon body B. That end of the operating lever 21 extending toward the front of the seat 1 has a finger piece 24 pivotally connected thereto so asto swing vertically toward and away from the seat supporting frame A. A spring strip 25 normally swings the finger piece 2% upwardly into a yielding engagement with the frame A. A keeper 26 receives the finge'r piece 24 so as to limit the downward swinging movement thereof and also cooperate therewith to limit the lateral swinging movement of the main lever 21. A suitable finger hold 27 may be applied to the finger piece 24, and the latter is also provided with an upwardly projecting stud 28 adapted to engage an opening 29 to lock the latch bolts C in a retracted position, and also to slip over the inclined teeth 30 so as to cooperate therewith to prevent the latch bolts from being accidentally withdrawn a sufiicient amount to release the seat after the seat has once been adjusted. 7

The noses of the latch bolts 0 are preferably beveled at 1 1 so as to cooperate in the most effective manner with the notches 11 of the vertical guide strips 10, and each of the arms 14 of the latch bolts C is provided with a spring 31 normally tending to project the latch bolt into operative position. These springs 31 are shown as surrounding the arms l l and interposed between the guide members 17 and washer members 32 which are held in position by suitable means such as the cotterpins 33. These springs 31 holdthe latch bolts yieldingly in a projected position and in order to retract the latch bolts it is necessary to swing the finger piece 24 down and disengage the stud 28. from the inclined teeth 30 preparatory to swinging the main lever 21 laterally. When the latch bolts have been retracted they can be held in such position by causing the stud 28 of the finger piece to engage the opening 29, although as soon as the said stud 28 is disengaged from the opening 29 the springs 31 will force the latch bolts into operative position, the stud 28 slipping over the inclined teeth 30 and cooperating therewith to prevent backward movement of the locking bolts. Owing to this construction no amount of jolting or arring as the vehicle passes over rough roads will ever result in the latch bolts C becoming disengaged from the notches ll of the guide strips 10 and permitting the seat to drop.

The guide strips 10 are shown as arranged in pairs, one pair being applied to each side of the wagon box B. As previously explained, the guide strips preferably have a transverse strips 34:, while the upper ends thereof are secured to hangers 35 adapted to hook over the upper edges of the sides of the wagon box. The guide strips are thus connected to the hangers in such a man ner that they can be detachably applied to the sides ofthe wagon box and moved back and forth thereon into any desired position.

With the foregoing construction it will be obvious that by retracting the latch bolts G the seat can be raised and lowered for the purpose of setting it at any desired elevation. After the seat has been properly adjusted it is merely necessary to release the finger piece 24 and permit the spring actuated latch bolts to be moved outwardly so as to engage the nearest set of notches 11 upon the guide strips 10. This adjustment of the seat can be very quickly accomplished and admits of the seat being lowered into the wagon box in stormy and rainy weather so as to protect the driver as much as pos sible. The cruciform cross section of the guide strips 10 enables them to interlock with the slots in the extension plates 15 so that there is no danger of the guide strips becoming disengaged from the guide slots by a spreading of the sides of the wagon box or the like. This cruciform cross section of the guide strips also gives them great strength for the amount of material employed, since the longitudinal side ribs serve as reinforcing means.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is

1. An adjustable wagon seat including vertically disposed notched guide strips ap plied to the wagon box, a seat supporting frame slidably mounted upon the guide strips, a'seat carried by the seat supporting frame, oppositely facing latch bolts mounted for engagement with the notched guide strips to lock the seat supporting frame in an adjusted position, springs normally tending to move the latch bolts into operative position, a main lever having an operative connection with the latch bolts for simultaneously retracting the same, a finger'piece hinged to the main lever so as to swing toward and away from the seatsupporting frame, a spring normally tending to swing the finger piece toward the seat supporting frame, and

10. An adjustable Wagon seat including a pair of vertically disposed guide strips of cruciform cross section applied to each side of the wagon box, hangers carrying the guide strips and adapted to fit over the upper'edges of the sides of the wagon box, a seat supporting frame, a seat mounted there on, extension plates applied to the seat supporting frame and provided with slotted ends slidably receiving the guide strips, latch means upon the seat supporting frame for engagement with the guide strips to lock the seat supporting frame in an adjusted position, andmeans for controlling the latch means.

11. An adjustable wagon seat including vertically disposed guide strips of cruciform cross section applied to opposite sides of the wagon box, one of the ribs of each of the crucifiorm' guide strips being notched, a seat supporting frame, a seat mounted thereon, extension plates applied to the seat supporting frame and having the ends thereof slotted to receive the cruciform guide strips, latch bolts slidably mounted upon the extension plates for engagement with the notched ribs of the guide strips to lock the seat supporting frame in an adjusted position, and a main lever having an operative connection with the latch bolts for simultaneously manipulating the same.
