T 0 all whom. it may Concern Be it known that I, J osnrH Koaiono'c s, a citizen of the United States, residing at 153 lVest Twenty-second street, Chicago, Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sheet-Metal Containers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to sheet metal containers, and more particularly to containers of the class which are composed of celluloid covered cover-sections with a connecting band-section, as is usu'aiiin certain forms of pocket savingshanks' and toilet-boxes or containers. I

Mypobject is to provide anovel and simple construction of cover-section for such containers which will be economical of manufacture, will produce a container of exceeding neat appearance, and particularly in the case of. a savings bank,.will be strong posure of the hand-section, whereby the operation of opening the bank by one having a suitable device, may be expedited, and in the-case of a toilet case, will providein a snap-cover means for holding a mirror or other article on the inside of the cover.

Referring to Figs. 1, 2 and 3, tlie pocket savings bank therein shown is of a type commonly provided involving upper and lower similar cover-sections 7. and a handsection 8 releasably connecting the coveragainst the inner continuous free edge {of the covering 15, as shown in Fig. 3. The flange 1% and the ring portion 17 of the collet 16 are so shaped, as shown, as to provide a continuous undercut surface on eachcoversection which is engaged by th'e'edge of the hand-section 8, which latter is preferably inclined to parallelthe portion 17 of the collet. 1

j The feature of having the edges (if the band-section 8 interlocked with undercut surfaces on cover-sections is a well known form or construction, and the assembling of the cover-sections with the hand 8 will therefore be readily understood those skilled in the art.

My improvement consists in the provision of the collet for holding the free edge of the celluloid in place with a portionot the collet extending toward the center of the cover beyond the ring-section 17 and at an angle thereto and connected therewith, the

collet in the case oi the bank illustrated, and, as I prefer tofo'i'ni it when used in connection with a bank, having a continuous plate-section which is circular in shape and carriesthe ring-section 17 at its peripheral edge; By thus constructing the collet the cover-sections may be made very strong with a minimum of metal, no met-hi parts oi the cover-section will be exposed to view,

In the construction illustrated in Figs. 4. 5 and 6 my improvement is shown as applied to a toilet-container, as for example, one designed to receive powder or used for any other purpose, in which the cylindrical side of the container is permanently united to the bottom thereof. and the coversection is adapted to be readily applied to and removed therefrom. The cylindrical side-section of the container is represented at 18. the lower edge of this member-being Slightly outwardly deflected throughout the periphery of the member 18. as represented .at 19, at which it intcrfits with the base portion 20 of the container. Th"- base portion 20 is formed of the members 13 and 15. as explained ofthe construction illustrated in the preceding figures. and the out-turned edge 1-) of the member 1 interlocks with the continuous undercut surface provided on the member 20. The Gover-section of the container is represented at 21 and is of ex actly the same construction as the coverscction 7 of the preceding figures. exceptingthat the collet 16, instead of extending continuously across the inner face of the blank 13. is centrally c'ut away and. its inner edge deflected downwardly and inwardly, as represented at 22, to form a continuous flange adapted to retain a mirror. represented at 23, 01' any other suitable article, in place on the inside of the cover 21.

lhe upper edge of the ringrsection l7 telescopes with the cover-section 21 and carrics small nubs 24 which, by reason of tho springiness of the parts, snap past the edges of the cover-section 21 upon applying the latter to the body portion of the container, and serve to .releasably hold the cover in place (Fig. 8).

lVhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A cover-section comprising a disk having a flange along its edge. covering material extending over a face of said disk and. against said flange, and a collet telescoping said tlangcddisk and fitting against the portion otsaid covering material which overlies said flange. said collet being formed of a band-section of reinforcing material open at, its outer end and provided atits inner end :uliacent to the body of said disk with a portion of reinforcingmaterial which err tends within the confines of said.bandsection and at an'angle to the latter and lies against the inner face of said disk.

A cover-section comprising a disk hav ing a flange along its edge, covering material extending over a face of said disk and over the outer face of said flange and against the inner tace of the latter, and a collet telescoping said flanged disk and fitterial extending over a face of said disk and against said flange. and a collet telescoping said th'inged disk and fitting against the portion of said covering material which overlies said flange, said collet being formed of a band-section of reinforcing material open at its outer end and'provided at its.

inner end adjacent to the body of said. disk with a ring-section of reinforcing material which extends within the confines of said band-section and at an angle to the latter and lies against the inner face of said disk. the inner edge of said ring-section being flanged. for the purpose set forth. 4. A cover-section comprising a disk having a flange along its edge, covering-niaterial extending over a face of Said disk and over the outerface of said flange and against the inner face of the latter. and a collet telescoping said flanged disk and fitting against the portion of said coveringv material which overlies the inner face of Said flange, said collet being formed of a bandsection of reinforcii'ig material open at its outer end and provided at its inner end adjacent to the body of the disk with a ringsection of reinforcing material wnich extends within the confines of said band-sertion and at an angle to the latter and lies against the inner face of-said disk, the inner edge or" said ring-section being flanged. for the purpose set forth.
