To all whom it maycoacera: Be it known that I, Wr `LEY J. CARTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tremonton, in the county of Boxelder Vand State of Utah, have invented new and useul 1improvenients in Toys, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to toys, and has for an object to provide a cannon or projecting device for use in throwing projectiles.

The invention contemplates, among other features, a toy cannon consisting of few and simple parts and which can be readily operated to effectively projectV a ball or small projectile a considerable distance and with considerable force.

In the further disclosure of\the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying 'dra-wings, constituting .a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding .parts in all the views, and in which: A

Referring more particularly tothe views, I provide a carriage 10 and which consists of a plurality of sections 11 that are suitably riveted together to form a mounting for the cannon and include studs 12 on which are mounted a plurality of wheels :13, the sections 11 each including a rail portion 14 forming a taill piece 15 constituting a part of the base of the cannon.

The cannon proper consists of a tubular body 16 formed with a bore 17 and which has opposed trunnions 18 journaled in upstandiug bearings 19v Jforming parts of the sections 11 of the carriage 10. Mounted to swing upon tne carriag 10 is a lever 20 having its inner end formed with a preferably rounded head 21 bearing against the undef(l side of the inner end of the body 1G, the cannon being adapted to bc raised or lowered for the purpose ot sighting the same hy operating the rear or free end oi the lever. Mounted to slide in the bore 17 is a plunger 23 formed with a rearwardly extending projection 24 terminating in a hook 25, said pl-unger'being engaged by a spring 26 arranged in the bore and bearing againstan annular seat or face 27 of the plunger. The breech of the cannon proper is indicated by the numeral 30 and consists of an end piece 31 suitably secured to the rear end of the'body by havingy suitable screws 32 passing through the body and into indentations 33 in forwardly, extending lips 34 formed with the end piece 31. From the .foregoing description it will be apparent that the device described is of a simple.construction, consists of few parts that can be readily operated by a child.

The cannon may be used in mimic warfare and in conjunction with a tort or the usual toy soldiers that children generally play with.
