To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JUDsoN R. DE Nov- ELLES, a citizen of the United States residing at Binghamton, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hasp- Locks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. 7

This invention relates to hasps, and particularly to hinged hasps which are used in connection with screen doors, lattice doors, or other similar doors of open construction.

An object of this invention is the provision of a lock or fastener for hasps which cannot be picked with a wire or the like passed through the screen or lattice work of the door.

Another object of this invention is the provision of a fastener for hasps which is pivotally connected to the hasp and is adapted for locking engagement with the keeper of the hasp, after the hasp has been engaged therewith.

A still further object of this invention is the provision of a hasp lock which is extremely simple in construction whereby the same may be cheaply manufactured, and which is very efficient and durable in use.

With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a face view of my hasp lock applied; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the latch plate; and Fig. 4 is a perspective detail view of one of the latches.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a plate to one end of which the hasp 2 is hingedly connected, the hasp having a slot 3 formed therein to receive the looped keeper or staple 1 carreid by the base plate 5. Pivotally connected at one end to the hasp inwardly of the slot is the laterally extending arm 6 of a latch plate 7, the latch plate being provided with a reduced extension 8 which is adapted for engagement through the keeper 4 when the same is disposed through the slot in the hasp. Pivotally connected at one end to the free end of the extension 8 is a pair of latch levers 9, and coiled around a stud 10 which projects outwardly from the latch plate is a substantially V-shaped spring 11, the ends of which extend longitudinally of the plate for engagement at their extremities against the opposing edges of the latch levers 9 to normally force the same apart. Formed in the outer edges of the latch levers are recesses 12 which when the levers are disposed through the keeper are adapted to engage the side portions of the keeper, to pre vent disengagement of the latch from the keeper until the levers 9 are moved inwardly against the tension of the spring. Formed 0n the free end of each lever is alaterally disposed finger piece 13 by means of which the levers may be readily manipulated to disengage the same from the keeper, and formed on the latch plate are outwardly projecting lugs 14; which provide stops to limit the outward movement of the lever under the tension of the spring 11 when the hasp is in unlocked position.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is z- 1. In a device of the character described, the combination with a hasp having a slot therein, a looped keeper adapted to project through the slot, a latch pivotally connected to the hasp for bodily movement in the arc of a circle parallel to the face of the hasp and having a portion tapered for engagement through the keeper, a latch lever pivotally connected to the lower end of the tapered portion of the latch and having a recess on one edge for engagement with the side portion of the keeper, and means yieldingly urging the latch lever into a position to engage the side portion of the keeper.
