WESLEY W, HAMILTON, OF FLUSHING TOWNSHIP, NEW YORK.
Letters Patent No. 114,289, dated nay 2, 1871.
IM PROVEMENT IN SLATE-F'RAMES.
The Schedule rean-ed to in these Letters Patent ana making part of the same.
I, WESLEY W. HAMILTON, of the township of Flushing, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Method of Cushioning Slate-Frames, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists chiey in the form of the cushion and the manner of its application, whereby extreme durability and effectiveness are secured at the least cost.
Figure l in the' accompanying drawing represents a perspective transverse section of a, slate with cushion,'the section being made through thev cushion on one side, AX, and its receptacle on the other, O BX.
The cushion consists of an elastic ring or band, shown slightly 'enlarged in Figures 2 and 3. Its receptacle is a slotted opening in thev slate-frame, consisting of the perforation c and slot B.
The cushions are applied as follows:
Havingmade the opening B c in the frame, stretch the ring over the fingers or otherwise until its thickness is sufiiciently reduced to permit of one side passing through the slot B to the hole or perforation c.
Remove the tension, and the ring assumes its proper size, lls the hole c, and covers the slot B, as seen at A. Y
Rings or endless bands of elastic material, of any suitable size, shape, or color, may be used in any suitable number or position.
'Among the advantages of my cushion may be mentioned the cheapness of production, facility of application, reduction of liability to breakage, facilitating the handling, rendering use noiseless even when turned on the desk from side 'to side, providing a suiiiciently broad surface to give solidity of rest, obviatng liability to be detached or lost, Ste.
Iam aware that the application of rubber cushions to slate-frames is not novel per se, several devices having been patented;
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A slate-frame provided with the slotted openings c B, in combination-with rings or endless bands A, as and for the purpose described.
Witnesses: WESLEY W. HAMILTON.
