BERTHA BOOKSTABER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CORSET-PAD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 13, 1914:.
Application filed January 8, 1914. Serial No. 811,084.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERTHA BOOKSTABER, a citizen of the United States, residing at 21 1 Forsyth street, New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corset-Pads; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in corset pads, and the primary object of the same is to provide a pad of this character having a plurality of transverse ribs against which the ribs of the corset are adapted to rest and thus be prevented from pressing into the flesh of the wearer.
A secondary object is to provide simple and eflicient means whereby said transverse ribsh are prevented from pressing into the lies I am aware that pads have heretofore been designed for the same general purpose, but none of them has come into practical use owing to inferior construction.
vA still further object, therefore, is to improve the construction of devices of this character and render them useful and comfortable.
With the above objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and claimed.
Figure 1 is an inner side view of a portion of a corset showing the pad in position thereon; Fig. 2 is an elevation of the opposite side of the pad from that shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on line 3-3 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4: is an elevation of one side of the pad with the covering removed.
In the drawings I have shown my invention as comprising an elongated rectangular pad 1 to one side of which-is stitched a pair of transverse flexible ribs 2. The ribs 2 are spaced from the upper and lower ends of the pad 1 a considerable distance and have their ends provided with pads 3 and terminating a short distance from the edges of said pad 1. The ribs 2 are secured to the outer side of the pad 1 and are adapted to re-- ceive the inward thrust of the corset ribs or steels and thus the ribs on the pad and the corset are preventedfrom forcing into the flesh of the wearer as is common with many forms of corsets now on the market.
A light covering t of gauze or other porousmaterial is stitched over the pad 1 and the ribs 2, said covering being provided wit-h a reinforcing strip 5 on the portion covering the outer side of the pad. This strip is adapted for the reception of safety pins 6 which are furnished with the pad for use in attaching the same to the corset.
By this construction I have produced a very simple andefficient pad having several advantageous features as above stated.
What is claimed as new is:
A device of'the character described comprising an elongated rectangular pad of resilient material, transverse ribs of flexible material secured thereto and spaced from the opposite ends thereof, the ends of said ribs terminating inside the edges of said pad and being provided with individual pads, and a covering over said pad and said ribs, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence .of two subscribing witnesses.
H. REMARD COHEN, ANNA M. KRAMER.
