DEVICE FOR DELIVERING MATERIAL FROM A CONTAINER.
mantra.
Application filed May 25, 1914. Serial No. 840,963.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, ALBERT CLaMENs a citizen of the, United States, resident in Louisville, county of Jeflerson, State of- Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Device for Delivering Material from a Container, of which the iollowing 1s a specification. My invention relates to improvements in devices for distributing and delivering material from a container, in which the materialis confined in a reservoir and from there is spread in small quantity over a surface. adapted to receive it, to be applied from this surface in the way desired.
The object of my improvement is to provide an easily portable device so constructed that it is easily handled and may 1f deslred be applied as an article of jewelry for the application of cosmetics; that there is no danger of spilling the supply of mater al, that the amount applied to the distributing surface will be even and notexcessive, and
at the same time to effect the introduction of the carrying surface into the container and its withdrawal therefrom, by a simple and effective means and to provide a device in which there is at all times some part of the carrying surface exposed to impregnation by the contents of the reservoir.
My invention is shown by the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an end view, Fig. 2 a side viewand Fig. 3 a horizontal section through the line X X, omitting the cover.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout all of said views.
In the form shown, A is a box which forms a reservoir for the material which is to be delivered. The two sides of the box are segments of a circle, being a little more than a semicircle. A hinged portion A of a cylindrical part connecting thetwo sidesof the box affords a means of introducing material into the box or reservoir. Av block or plate A at the top of the box, which block closes the box and forms a part of its walls, is provided with a slit through which the disk shaped flat carrier B slides and has access to the interior of the box A. The
1 dimensions of the slit are such as to allow the passage of the carrier without material leakage of contents.
The carrier B is made of a flexible mate rial suited to the character of material to be delivered and applied, its flat sides being Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. a, 19th.,
oted at C in such manner that some part of it is always inside the box A and the rest outside, and as it revolves one portion is always entering the box A through the slit and another portion is always emerging from the box A. Two plates B and B of athin hard material,
are placed adjacent to thecenter of the carrier B, one on each side of 1t, to furnish a bearing for the pivot C,
which passes through the carrier B and the plates 1 and B A cover D is provided, having in the form shown segmental sides and a cylindrical surface connecting the same, all of such dimensions that, the cover being pivoted concentrically with the box and carrier, it is possible to slide the cover back over the box A, thus exposin the carrier for use and so it can be move around to such position as to protect the carrier when it is not in use. In the drawing'this cover is shown in an lntermediate position so that a part of it covers the exposed portion of the carrier and a art of it covers a portion of the box A;
t will be seen that when material is placed inside the box A in proper form, it
will come in contact with the carrier 13' and the advantage of fiat construction and compactness and that it also furnishes a simple means for returning that portion of the carr1er which has been used, and from which the material has been removed by use, backinto the container, and that such portion of the carrier is by this device returned into the container without the use of any'strings or rods or outside means.
The box can be inverted or shaken without material leakage and its flat construction makes it useful for carrying about in the pocket of the "purse. The thin flexible carrier, the flat sides of which are adapted. to promote the adherence of the material,
and to facilitate its easy application, render it convenient for the application of material in powdered form, such as a cosmetic powder. The device is so constructed that it may be shaken without material leakage, thus impregnating the entire flat surface of the carrier. My invention also has the advantage that while one portion of the carrier is being used the other portion is in contact with the contents of the box or reservoir A, in preparation for use.
D shows a ring by means of which the device may be attached to a chain or other support. A and A and D and D are snaps by which the cover D is caused to remain in place after it has been turned around to a position such that it completely covers the exposed portion of the carrier, and the snaps also serve the purpose of holdving the cover in place when folded back over the box.
I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent the following: 7
1. In a device for distributing and applying material from a container, a flexible circular revoluble carrier, whose flat surface is adapted to be impregnated with material, and a box forming a reservoir and provided with a slit, said carrier being so placed in relation to the reservoir that as the carrier revolves, portions of the carrier pass through the slit, into the interior of the reservoir and out again through the slit.
2. In a device for distributing and applying material from a container, a flexible circular carrier whose fiat surface is adapted to be impregnated by a material in powdered form, plates attached thereto on either side adjacent to the center, a pivot on which said carrier with plates attached is adapted to revolve, and means for impregnating said carrier with material from the reservoir.
3. In a device for distributing and applying material from a container, a flexible revoluble carrier to the flat side of which material tends to adhere, and a reservoir fixed adjacent thereto and having a slit through which portions of the carrier move as it revolves, the said slit being of such dimensions that no serious leakage takes place i between its sides and the carrier.
ALBERT CLEMENS.
