ROTARY MOTOR.
Application filed May 22, 1913.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Diismr'i CRAYSSAC, a citizen of the French Republic, residing at Villeurbanne, Rhone, in France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rotary Motors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in the rotary motor described in my application for patent Serial No. 742900.
The invention provides an improved method of articulating the rods which connect the pistons to the disks mounted on the crank shaft described in my aforesaid application No. 742,900.
The invention is illustrated in the annexed drawing.
Figure 1 is a partial front view of the motor, part being shown in section. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of a cylinder on line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 illustrates on a larger scale, the connection between a pis ton and its rod.
a indicates the cylinders, b the pistons, (Z the crank shaft, the crank of which is at g.
The rods or stirrup like members a which connect the pistons to the disks 7' of the crank shaft are mounted in the following manner. On the exterior face of each piston is arranged a small round bar of hard steel it forming a roller bearing for the horizontal part of the member 0 which carries a small flat bar or plate of hard steel is on which the bar it bears during rotation of the motor, and rolls with a movement to the right or to the left in accordance with the swinging of the bar. The piston is connected to the rod or member 0 by a bridge 2' which only serves to retain it in position when the motor is stopped. The disks 7 to which the ends of the rods or members 0 are Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 8, 1914.
Serial No. 769,127.
fixed are provided with hard steel rollers j sunk in shoulders f. The ends of the rods are terminated by eyes a embracing the rollers j with which they make contact during rotation of the motor. Small plates of hard steel 0 form contact surfaces for the rollers. In this manner, the bearing of the rods against the rollers j and the bearing of the pistons against the rods by means of the rollers h is assured in a constant fashion during the action of the ,motor. The bearing surfaces are very small which reduces to the minimum the power absorbed by friction at these points.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is In a rotary motor of the character described, the combination of radial cylinders, pistons having their entrance at the outer ends of said cylinders, disks mounted on the motor shaft, stirrup-like members, parts of which are horizontal, rollers arranged on the exterior faces of said pistons adapted to bear against said horizontal parts of said stirrup-like members during rotation of the motor, rollers sunk in said disks, eyes on the ends of said stirrup-like members, embracing said last mentioned rollers, and having constant contact therewith during rotation of the motor, and bridges connecting the pistons to said stirrup-like members when the motor is at rest.
In witness whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
